Dark Base Pro 900 RGB strips question

Hello,

First post here, so, hi :)

I took delivery of my new desktop last Friday and I have been busy since then installing software and getting everything licensed and what have you.

Just taking a step back for a moment, and I was wondering about the LED strips that have been installed. I only just found out today that you can turn those off, as well as changing the colours. Glad I found that because the white setting was a little bit too bright.

Anyway, I then got thinking, is it possible to connect those strips to the motherboard RGB headers instead? I have a ROG STRIX Z390-E GAMING, which is RGB ready and looking at the manual I can see there are some RGB connections. I am hoping that if I connect the strips to the motherboard instead I would be able to control the colours and other aspects via the ASUS Aura software.

Would it void my warranty doing that do you think? I suppose I should pose that question directly to pcspecialist...

Funny thing is, I'm 59 this year and I appear to have beaten my two lads to the RGB revolution haha! :D

cheers

Hiya, the RGB revolution is a thing of beauty.... I want my bed rgb lit!

It's definitely worth a go, I'm not sure what strips PCS use, but you won't do any damage by trying I don't think.

Haha! Yeah, I've got no less than three RGB LED bulbs in my little studio, as well as one of them rotating things... I should post a pic :D

I think the strips actually come with the case so I guess I should ask be quiet!

thanks,

Ah, if they're plugged directly into the case, then they're probably not compatible with the board, but it's worth tracing the ends of them to be sure.

There is a little PCB underneath the motherboard tray (or the back, if you know what I mean) and it provides power and control to the fans and the LED strips.

I think I'll contact be quiet! before I faff with anything. Currently trying red which is much kinder on the eyes than white, although it's not dark yet (Summer is coming!).

Better to be safe than sorry...

Okay, I contacted Be Quiet! and the official response is, for the older DARK BASE PRO 900 FULL TOWER GAMING CASE, you cannot connect those strips to the motherboard RGB headers, although you can with the Rev 2 version of the case.

Begs the question, then, why have I not got the Rev 2 version of this case when I ordered my PC just two weeks ago? I can only assume that I used the very last old spec case in the building (and I was given a second hand case to boot it seems). On the configuration page, now, you can only select the Rev 2 case. Just my luck... And I am slightly disappointed.

Hmmm, if I were you I'd contact PCS to discuss.... think you're very unlucky if you did get the last of the 1st gen cases.... they're very open to discussing builds, you never know, may be worth it.

Yeah, I did just that in the last hour. When I unpacked it on Friday, last week, I noticed that there was a slight gouge on the edge of the plastic trim. I let that pass me by to be honest. I was so excited to be unboxing this thing, having waited for nearly two weeks, that I thought, "sod it." It worked fine so I assumed that it was caused when getting the case ready for assembly, and so small (about 1cm) that it would have been easy to miss.

But then I decided to remove all the unused drive bays, seeing as you can, quite easily in this case, so as to allow a more uninterrupted air flow from the front fans across the motherboard and CPU. It was then that I noticed that the bay up top for the optical drives were scratched around the mounting points. I haven't even had anything installed up there as I already have an external BluRay player, ample for my needs, seeing as I rarely use optical discs.

The guy I spoke to was helpful and apologetic and offered to take it back to install into a new case. So can't fault PCS for that.

But I had already decided that, as the damage was very superficial and, in the case of the optical drive bay, not that visible, I would rather not be doing without my PC for another two weeks.

That Rev 2 case does look very nice though, hahaha!
