Hi all,

I decided to finally spend the money and buy a new laptop. I've been looking extensively and trying to save the money since December.

I have been reading a litte about how power hungry the GPU is and I wanted to know more info about the motherboard and if it's up to scratch for this laptop.

The motherboard will be up to scratch in that it will happily support the components and I'm not aware of people who have been buying HM170 chipset laptops finding that they melt after 6 months or anything of the sort. :)

What I would say is that if you have been saving since December and your budget is now ~£1300, you should give some serious consideration to waiting for mobile Pascal to come out. On the desktop side of things, we have already seen GTX 980 (£400-£450) performance be delivered by the GTX 1060 (~£260), with lower power draw.

There's a lot of expectation it will be announced in mid August: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Nvidia...ficially-debut-at-Gamescom-2016.171125.0.html

Oh really? I had no idea it was being announced so soon. I am not sure how much I would be spending for it, can you give me any indication? Would I need to upgrade into a new laptop (because the HM170 is not up to scratch) and would I need to upgrade the processor?

Would appreciate any comments on this as I may do this. Is it worth starting a new thread?

Would really appreciate how much you think its gonna cost. I have come over my original budget.

I'm actually really worried about this now. I have ordered my laptop and may want to wait now. . .

Edit: I have called PCS and they are unsure when the 1080m will be launched. With some reading around the 980m and the 1080 it looks like the 1080 really shines at 4k. I think it would be quite a lot more to upgrade to a 4k screen and get the 1080m when it is released. In that case I think I am happy with what I have :)

Though that website does make me wonder if its worth waiting for the 1080m to come out and then see a drop in price for the 980m...

Thanks for your comment!
