Defiance 2 (6th gen) 17.3 Laptop

Hello to the forum. I've recently ordered a Defiance 2 17.3 laptop, I'm only on 4th working day & on pre-production stage, but on reading through the forum with others buying a similar chassis & build that seem to have waited upto 50 odd working days for theirs to arrive. I'm worried that I will be waiting a similar time, any info on the likely time I may gave to wait is much appreciated. The full specs I have ordered are as follows:

Any help on if this is a good spec for today's gaming market is much appreciated, as I've not had a good PC for quite a few years now & I'm a bit out of touch with what's the best options. I don't have room for a desktop, so a high end laptop was better for me.

Kind regards forum people

There have been problems, not of PCS making, with chassis, component deliveries etc and that set production time back a lot. They are catching up well and have increased work hours to try to combat it, so don't think you have too much to worry about.

I would change up to Arctic Extreme thermal paste, only a few quid and you don't need all that RAM, 8GB is enough for gaming and 16 covers most other things. If you can afford it add an SSD for the OS and main games/programmes, it will dramatically increase boot and load time, especially as you have a standard speed HDD, although it is a good drive.

Thank you very much for a hasty reply. I was thinking I might have gone a little overboard with the RAM, I think I'll downgrade the RAM a bit & go for an SSD for drive 1 & a bigger HDD for drive 2 if that's what you recommend for (high settings) gaming! Thank you

I've just amended my order based on your advice my friend. Does this seem more in line with what you suggested? I'm not up on these SSD drives to be honest.

Memory (RAM) 16GB HyperX IMPACT 2400MHz SODIMM DDR4 (2 x 8GB)
1st Hard Disk 250GB Samsung 850 EVO SSD, SATA 6Gb/s (upto 540MB/sR | 520MB/sW)
2nd Hard Disk 1TB WD SLIM BLUE WD10SPCX, SATA 6 Gb/s, 16MB CACHE (5400 rpm)
Thermal Paste ARCTIC MX-4 EXTREME THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY COMPOUND

The GPU and the CPU are the most important for playing at high setting, the GPU is the most essential for gaming but the ones you have will be fine. The SSD has little effect on performance but will give great boot up and load times, the OS will boot in seconds. If you put the OS and the main programmes and games you use on the SSD and use the standard drive for storage you will get the best out of the system. The SSD you have chosen is a good size as games these days are not exactly small.
That set up will cope well and the i7 CPU will be good for other stuff as well, video and photo work if you do that, it will also give the laptop a decent life span, don't want to say how long as it is not something that can really be estimated with much accuracy but a good few years.
What warranty did you choose, I went fore the Silver on mine, for an extra fiver I think it worth doing when you are spending 1,000 or so on a laptop.

Thank you Stephen. You have been most helpful indeed. I just can't wait for it to arrive now.
Take care dear sir
Kind regards

Thank you Neil. Of course now is the most frustrating time, whether the computer arrives in a few days or a couple of weeks the waiting will seem like years :)
The figures given are estimates but in normal circumstances fairly good, my two PCS laptops were 13 and 14 working days but there was a rush on both times. Not sure of the reason for the first, it was more than two years ago, but when I ordered my Octane the i7 4790 CPU had just become available again (it was initially withdrawn because of heating problems) and a lot of us were after that.

Does anyone know if the items on my build are actually in stock at PCS? I don't seem to have the savvy to find out on the website.
Kind regards
Neil

When you put your spec together click "proceed" and you will get a pop up to say whether everything is compatible and if they are waiting for components to be delivered will give an ETA. This can never be 100% as computers are built as they are ordered, unless you go for fast track, so if there is a problem with a faulty components with people ahead of you in the queue they will have to take a good one from stock and that could effect things.
