Descktop replacement Laptop for VR, gaming and 3D design work

Hi all,

I have a budget of around £2200 and have chosen this spec for my PC Specialist laptop build. I plan to use it for gaming, work/gaming with a HTC Vive and 3D/2D design and rendering with photoshop and various CAD/animation software.

Let me know your thoughts and if there are any tweaks you think I should make all comments appreciated!!

Looks good. Assuming the storage is adequate for your needs, there's nothing that stands out to me as a bad idea there

I would probably ditch the EVO and look to purchase a Samsung 950 Pro M2 drive elsewhere and re-install the OS myself. The Samsung M2 drives are proper hardcore, the 950 is meant to be the pick of the litter. They are approx £250 for 512GB.

Hi The_Scotster, unfortunately that looks to be over my budget, what kind of performance gain would I be looking at with that SSD over the 850 EVO?

Hi Scotster ok thanks. Ive looked online and I can source one close to my budget limits. Also looked at the performance gain and it looks to be substantial. Will have a chat to PCS about it and see if I can change. Would have to drop the 1tb drive too though to keep with budget limits. I could always add more down the line when needed

I wouldn't recommend dropping the 1TB drive to be honest. Storage drives are very handy to have for storing your offline work. To that end I would probably leave your configuration as it is with a view to replace the SSD when you can afford to in the future. Perhaps even save up for the 512GB version so that you have plenty of headroom.
