Desktop or Laptop?

Hi there,

I am contemplating whether to get a desktop or a laptop. I can build pretty much the same spec for both.

I know desktops are easier to upgrade and are better for future proofing, but I really like the portability of laptops.

Can you help me out please?

Here are the builds:

Laptop - https://ibb.co/gpTcXz

Thank You

The builds haven’t shown, it’s best to proceed on the build and then select “copy to forum” and then you can copy it as text.

Personally I always go for a laptop because I travel all over the UK and sometimes Europe for work and I use my own machine.

I also now tend not to replace my machines anything like as often as before - I'm currently the owner of a 2015-purchased PCS Defiance II and it still runs everything I throw at it admirably and I specced it at the time to specifically to have longevity.

It's worth bearing in mind though that mobile components - even the desktop "equivalents" are usually lower power and lower performing than their desktop counterparts.

As above - if you need to take it out of the house, it has to be a laptop.

if you don't, a desktop will give you more performance for a lower price, and let you upgrade it - unlike a laptop where you'll need to purchase a replacement system versus buying new components.

If you don't actually need the portability, then a desktop is simply better for performance, upgrades, and value. And thermals too.

Should you want to have the flexibility of moving around the house and using the system, note that for gaming things like Steam Link / Steam In Home Steaming will let you control the game running on the desktop in another room using any old cheap laptop, or a steam link box connected to the TV, etc.

What will you be using the system for? What software? Just gaming?

Edit: Meh, beaten twice today on that question by my esteemed 8-legged friend here
