Display driver has stopped responding..what the?....and other questions.

Bought my pc in Jan 2011, got it think about August and finally set it up in Nov 2011...shame on me.

The point...

PCS PCS MAELSTROM, I5 2500K, ASUS P8H67, NVIDIA GTX460 1gb, 8gb Kingston Hyper, Corsair 650W, W7 Home 64bit

Order nos was 374460

The large side fan on this was'nt connected...I fixed that.

Not sure what GTX 460 I have...is it a GTX 460 or GTX 460 V2? I need that info to get correct drivers when updating. My guess is v2 but need to be sure.

Getting the 'display driver nvidia kernel mode driver version 266.58 stopped responding and has successfully recovered' message soon as I turned on....Has a solution been found for this problem yet?

Very pleased with the PCS pc...very nice indeed despite the problems above so not a whinge just a request for advice.

Thanks in anticipation.

Thanks, will do that. Never seen that option, just did'nt page down. One down and 2 to go.

The display driver question is a difficult one. Googled it and wow, lots had/having the same problem. Obviously I looked here and sure enough others had asked the same thing.
I have found several solutions to try but thought the Boffins at PCS might have a difinitive answer by now.

Hopefully installing a new driver will solve the error message,
if not,you could try uninstalling all traces of nvidia graphics drivers using driversweeper before installing new driver.
Failing that it could be a TDR problem,in any case if the problem persists I would give PCS a call.

Thanks but seemed to have solved the problem, I think. Need to use the machine more to be certain.

Googled and found four solutions and applied them all. The main one being a Microsoft updater problem. Two were settings in the Nvidia control centre, which would also work for ATI cards. The third was a Windows 7 setting.
Did'nt have time or patience to try them one by one. If I have a problem, usually just throw everything at it, all at once. lol

I will update drivers when I've checked the latest version for my card out. Thanks for that advice.

I'll supply the details of the above solutions if anyone requests it. At the moment machines fine, but as I said need to test it thoroughly. Feel it was just too easy, which makes me uneasy.

You may have a corrupted MS updater and are not getting the fix for this problem. You won't be aware of it until you check.

Also in Nvidia control panel set performance halfway between quality/performance....and make sure physx processor is set to your card, not auto.

Use Windows Classic mode in W7.

One extra thing I added for good measure, took desktop res down to 1440x900.

I had this problem about once every 15 minutes even on desktop with no stress on pc from turning it on at first. The problem seems to have gone now.

I will bring everything back up again to see what it was, eventually.

Yep.....solved this problem. Tested with MW3/MW2/Homefront/UT3/Google Crome/IE. I took the resolution back up so it was'nt that.
