First one I would downgrade to the i5-4670 (non-k), downgrade the cpu cooler to the triple copper heatpipe, downgrade the motherboard to the hd3 gigabyte (no loss in performance). Since you have an SSD as your primary drive you won't get any benefits from a hybrid drive you may want to consider a caviar black as the secondary drive instead and I wouldn't bother with additional fans, if you want better cooling you are better off choosing a slightly more expensive case. I would also suggest going for at least the gtx 760 or higher if you are planning to play more demanding games in the future.

2nd one, if you are going with the gtx 860m it probably would be cheaper to get the Optimus chassis with the same gpu. I would also upgrade the thermal paste and get anything but the n135 wireless card, I had many problems with the same wireless card and there are other threads indicating similar problems

Why would you downgrade so many things?

I considered getting the optimus as it was a little cheaper, but I liked the look of th vortex more, and it's keyboard and stuff.
Do you think the thermal paste is necessary? I have a friend who is good with computers and I asked him before I ordered if I should get the arctic paste, and he said it wasn't really needed and that the standard would be fine :S
Thanks for the tip on the wireless card, is there one you would suggest?

The downgrades are to do with getting a much better gaming PC for the same budhet. No need to have an unlocked cpu for Overclocking since it is not needed for gaming, you have a motherboard that supports SLI but considering your PSU I assume you are not planning to add a 2nd gpu and if you are not overclocking your cpu the triple copper is more than enough.

Ok, and is that thermal paste really necessary for the laptop? I've looked at the wirless cards, the next one up is the N-7260, do you know of any problems with this one?

I'm going to lower it to the i7-4790 (not K), will the copper pipe cooling be enough for this i7 processor?
And I have upped the graphics to the 760 4GB... and downed it to 1 fan instead of 2.

Gtx 760 is better, you can check benchmarks online. I would also upgrade the thermal paste, a laptop gets hot and any help with temps would help.

Ok, final idea:
on the desktop:
change it to 1 extra fan, the copper heat pipe cpu cooler thing, and then change the processor to i5-4690k... if I do that I can get the 4GB 970...
Is it worth me dropping to the i5 and getting that graphics card?

Yes, the 970 will be a big noticeable difference, whereas the difference between i5 and i7 will not be so noticeable at all.

Also, is the gigabyte z97-HD3 motherboard good? Since I was originally getting the z97x gaming

You'll get the same performance, there'll be no difference. Personally though, I'd go for the gaming version as it has better audio and SLI capability, but only IF i could afford it. The most important components at the moment are the processor and the GPU, you want to get the best you possibly can. Mainly the more expensive boards are for overclocking potential which you won't be doing and isn't necessary for gaming anyway.

I can't afford the z97x if i get the gtx 970

In that case, I'd chose the 970 over the z97x and go with the z97-hd3. You'll get more gaming power with the GPU, the board won't really enhance gaming potential.
