Does this spec look ok?

Hey there,

I am looking to purchase a new PC primarily for game and streaming (as well as some video editing). The games I currently play are very old school but will be looking to play AAA games. My budget is 1800 quid so this build has maxed me out. My main consideration other than usage is that it will future-proof for at least 5 years. I am not particularly knowledgeable on this stuff so would be great to know whether this looks like a balanced system and if I am overspending anywhere!

My monitor is MSI G27CQ4 E2 27 Inch 170Hz WQHD Gaming Monitor (1440)

I definitely wouldn't opt for the build as you have selected it. I think you need to revisit your budget as well as I would say you need £2k to get the level of performance you are after. Below is what I would recommend. I'll trim the price in the next option, which will take a performance hit:

Case
CORSAIR 4000D AIRFLOW TEMPERED GLASS GAMING CASE

AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D Eight Core CPU (4.2GHz-5.0GHz/104MB w/3D V-CACHE/AM5)

Thanks, much appreciated. For my own understanding, what are the main differences that I will see / feel from your builds vs mine so I know what to look at next time :) your help is greatly appreciated!

Basically they are much better balanced, they will have much fewer "quirks" they will run a lot smoother and most importantly they are set up for future upgrades so you'll get real longevity from them

As above really, that's the short story. The long story would involve you doing a lot of reading/watching/etc to fully understand. In semi-short.....

AMD are ahead of Intel at the moment. There are many reasons why but the least media highlighted reason is, for me, longevity. The AMD platform has years left in it. Anything from Intel is done, even their latest 14 series is DOA as it's just a re-badged 13 series, which is fine for a completely new build but still not a good choice IMO. Intel have miles to go to get their product line up in a future state, it's not simply performance rated, the key metric for actual generational performance is performance per watt, which is simply a no-contest.

Most of the rest of the changes centre around that, however:

You went with a prime board, only really recommended for lower level systems.
Slower than optimum RAM, you want the fastest you can get. With AMD the sweet spot is 6000Mhz. Intel still seems to struggle on the ASUS boards for some reason so I understand the options are limited.
I split your drives so that you have a dedicated OS drive and games drive for performance reasons, as well as eggs in basket reasons.
You limited the upgrade potential with a middle of the road PSU choice. Better to go for 1000w and know you don't ever need to upgrade it.
Very poor cooler choice, even for a mid-tier CPU. I don't rate them based on the amount of issues we have had. This could be due to quantities sold (as we don't have this information) but I always prefer tried and tested. For both suggested builds a good standard air cooler would be an OK choice, but there aren't any available.
You don't want Norton or any 3rd party AV with a modern Windows installation, they're not necessary.
