After a bit of research, it could be possible Synoptics touchpad driver issue, but can't even logon to windows to do anything coz of the new damned UEFI sh**. Really pi****. Crashed in the middle of work.

Can't even safe mode coz of this stupid uefi. Any ideas, don't really wanna reinstall!!

How do I bot from CD-ROM to enter windows repair???

I really don't like this uefi stuff. At least in the past (before uefi) any problems ...

Boot into safe mode and fix or
Boot from windows dvdand repair.

Why is it so complicated now or am I missing something simple.

From researching ... Only way into safe mode is by logging into windows( which I can't do cos I'm stuck on a black screen after reboot, oh, I do see the mouse arrow if I move it on the touchpad)
And boot options only list three things ..
1- mains boot drive
2- IPv4 network boot
3- IPv6 network boot

What the hell do I need network boot for!!! I need cd boot or even use boot possibly!!!!!!!!
Sry as u can c I'm a bit frustrated!!

Cuppa helped a bit ....

Still not fixed tho..:

So, managed to access "windows10" recovery console. Here's howto..

1- switch laptop off by forcing shutdown with main power switch.
2- switch laptop on by using power switch.
3- force shutdown when u c the "style note" splash screen.
4- repeat steps 2&3 until splash screen reads "please wait ....."
U will now be in windows recovery.

From here I tried safe mode. No luck still stuck on black login screen.
Tried load driver without need to check for MSsignature. No luck.
I do a a restore point, not done yet, just running a chkdsk. Hopefully that will work.

But at least I know how to enter recovery mode. But even from here I still cannot boot from dvd! Have secure boot disabled also in bios.
I take it no one checks these forums on a Sunday night eh?

The BSOD Doctor
Lots of things can cause that BSOD, drivers as ever are the usual culprits, but it can also be due to a flaky third party program, and even out of date SSD firmware (apparently - I've not seen that cause personally).

I rather think you have two problems though, one is the cause of the BSOD and the other is UEFI and secureboot. I experimented with UEFI and secureboot when I first got Windows 8 and very quickly decided it was way more trouble than it's worth. In all my years (and they are many) I've never been troubled by boot sector malware. So I have abandoned UEFI (and GPT disk partitions) and I always use traditional BIOS and MBR disks. As you have discovered all your favourite troubleshooting tools will boot with BIOS/MBR.

It may be that the best solution to your BSOD is a reinstall. I completely understand that you don't want to have to do that, but in the long run that will probably be quicker than all the faffing around you'll be doing because of UEFI.

If it were mine I'd do a clean reinstall of Windows using MBR partitions (that means deleting all partitions on your boot disk and starting again). You'll have to turn off UEFI and secureboot in your BIOS first of course. This will likely fix your BSOD and you'll have a system that's easier to troubleshoot in the future.

I totally agree ubuysa. I was planning on doing reinstall on legacy bios , suppose I was "enjoying" laptop and forgot lol.

I've managed to do a restore and got my work back now, so will do fresh reinstall v soon.

apart from the obvious pitfalls that I have encountered with UEFI, are there any concerns/ issues turning UEFI and secure boot off for legacy install. I'm no corporation, and don't think I have any international secrets to hide which defies the need for UEFi??

What do PCS feel about uefi??

Also... The Windiws disc that came with laptop ... On install it is us english location, u can change language to UK English but u can't change location to UK. I wonder why PCs ship us English disc.
