DVD drive keeps opening

I recieved my PC in August and it's worked perfectly till now. Last night I clicked "Burn" while going through some files and when my Drive popped open I closed it as usual. Problem is that it didn't remain closed, it ejected again..and again..and again whenver I closed it. Tried turning my computer and the power source off and on, uninstalling the drive and reinstalling but alas that hasn't worked, even when I place a cd in it, it won't read and will just open again. Is this a mechanical failure?

A few things to try,the first two you probably have already done so.
1 Press the eject button quickly a few times.
2 restart computer.
3 right click the drive in "computer" click properties/recording/untick "automatically eject disk after a mastered burn"
4 run a virus scan.
failing those it could be a fault with the drive as you say.

I'd make sure you give ya pc a virus scan like vanthus says. Also ensure windows is fully up to date.

If you have no Internet security, google and download Microsoft security essentials. its free, always try free stuff before buying all in one packages.

if the problem persists call pcs for further diagnosis.
