F1 2013 PC... Disappointment..? Xbox Controller help...

I decided to buy F1 on the PC year as it was only £20 and figured it could really benefit from a 144hz screen and my rigs graphic capabilities. I haven't had chance to play much due to other commitments but in the 20minutes I've played I'm massively disappointed with the way the PC version works, mainly to do with the controller. I'm using an Xbox pad as I don't have a wheel for my PC and it feels like I might as well be using a keyboard. It's impossible to slightly rev meaning you're either no revs or full revs and turning feels very 'left, right, up, down' rather than a full 360 degree turning circle which means your car just jolts left and right rather than gradually turning.

I was just wondering if there's any way I could fix this? I assume it's because the controller buttons are just key bound to normal keys so they can't recognise the controllers extra functions but is there software I could download to make it seem more like playing on the Xbox? Or is there anything in settings I need to change?

I know I should be playing with a wheel but I've never had any issues using a pad on the xbox and if I'd known the PC version would be so... naff.... I probably would have bought it on the Xbox and put up with the extra price and 7 year old hardware... that still plays better -.-

Seems to be a massive gap in opinions. there are as many people enjoying it as disliking. Tried the Steam community forums for advice from other people who actually play the game? Im gonna grab it on pay day as Ive seen it for £16 at the moment.

The sensitivity may be different on the PC using the windows drivers.

I do not have F1 2013 but have 2011 and 2012 and never had a problem, but I purchased a gamepad for it instead of using the 360, I bought the Logitech Chillstream, works perfectly the sensitivity is fine and revs are fine so I am happy, its only a cheap pad so might be worth a look.

Doyou have the Full driver installed for the 360 pad , what i mean by this is are you just using windows built in pad drivers ? , best way to tell this is to press the big X button if you see a battery indicator icon on your desktop then you have the full driver , if not then you need to get it , i had tons of various issues before i put the full drivers in & now the only issues i have are when the games themselves have not been coded correvtly for the pad (battlefield 3 being the worst of them)

I actually played last night properly for the first time since I made this thread as I've been busy. I've just installed my new SSD and did a clean windows install so I had to reinstall my windows adapter driver which I believe is just the common one built in already. I had a good go at the australian grand prix and I would say my first impressions were maybe a little haste'y. I had a good test of the steering and it seemed to turn how much I wanted it to turn rather than full lock one way or the other. I did change the settings to be Xbox controller rather than keyboard which I'm not sure I did first time round. So instead of being 'Left = A' it's now 'Left = LS'. It may have been already set to that but I can't remember.

The only thing still annoying me slightly is the throttle. I can rev slightly and hear my car but no lights come up on my steering wheel. It's either all lights or no lights even if I can hear my car revving. This makes coming out of corners pretty difficult without having traction control on full which makes me feel like I'm cheating a bit.. Perhaps what I really need is a wheel, I used to have one on the xbox and it was really good for F1 so perhaps that's where I'm going wrong, I've never had issues with revs or anything on Forza or Grid using a pad though (Grid on the PC). I will look to see if I have the full drivers tonight.

What I would say is the AI is fantastic. I went through all the young drivers tests and got offered a seat from pretty much all the average teams apart from Lotus. I chose Sauber as they're doing really well this season and came 4th in my first race. I know that's maybe slightly unrealistic but the actual racing was brilliant, I was right behind Alonso and Webber fighting it out infront of me for 2nd place while I had Rosberg hunting me down from behind yet we were all doing pretty much identical pace. It wasn't like previous games I've played where you just beat them in the braking zone and fly past, I was genuinely really struggling to find decent places to overtake and they outpaced me too much on the straights anyway. This chase went on for about 6 laps (15 lap race) and I so could have had him on the 14th lap but was a bit too ambitious and ran off wide.

Thoroughly enjoyed my first race though and I would definitely recommend picking it up (I've seen it for like £13 in places already!). Once I get this revving problem sorted I'll be very happy as my starts are a bit sluggish and coming out of corners on full revs isn't so smooth!

Thata not the full driver , here is the full driver from microsoft http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-gb/d/xbox-360-controller-for-windows

Its handy if for nothing else than to see how much charge your battery has , it did sort a lot of issues out for me when i was using the built in driver as its not the full driver

Give it a try :p

Cheers mate, I did try that last night when my controller wouldn't hook up to the adapter but uninstalled it before I tried it as I finally got it to work! I will re-install tonight to see if it makes a difference :)

Do you know if the official microsoft wheel (now discontinued) is compatible on the PC as well? If so I may have to give that a go before I start looking at silly expensive Logitech G27's... :D

Yea seems like it may work with my wireless adapter although they never released a driver on the PC for the force feedback feature! Ah well, apparently the resistance is still good so I might give it a go.
