Fairly new to building PCS

Hello!

As the title suggests, I'm fairly new to building and configuring customs computers as I've always bought pre-built systems with my current being a HP Omen desktop, with a i5 processor and a GTX 1060 3gb but I'm looking to upgrade. I've built a custom one which I've no idea if it's good for what I want (I game quite a bit, games range from Call of Duty to Total war series)

My budget is around £1300 - £1550.

Any help and advice would be appreciated!

Hello and welcome! :)

We don't encourage the use of pdf files on here because we can't ever be certain what's in them, so I've removed yours.

If you go to your chosen build and click the Proceed button (don't worry, that doesn't commit you to anything) near the bottom you'll find a 'Post To Forums' link, click that and then copy and paste the build (including the link to reconfigure and the full price) to the forum post.

We need the price so we can see how changes we might suggest affect your original build price and we need the link so that we can suggest alternatives.

And I see that due to my slow typing @Nursemorph has beaten me to it! :)

Ahh my mistake! apologies. Here's the link - https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/saved-configurations/amd-am4-gen3-pc/q3K0!GEV9M/

I'm currently using 2 27" Samsung curved monitors with a 60Hz refresh rate at the moment (Which I'm looking to sell with my current system so I can upgrade to a better monitor, single or double)

I mainly would use the system for gaming, but I'd use it for work as well as I'm a Police Officer (I'm not too fussed about posting it) so sometimes, as you can imagine, my work follows me home.

What do you expect your budget to be for the monitor? £1500 is a good 1440p build, you would generally be looking at 1440p 144hz gaming monitor (usually around £300-£400 depending on options).

If £1800 was the total budget you could get a very good gaming rig.

I could probably stretch to £1800, my current plan is to sell my current rig (I've no idea what'd be worth, it's still a perfect rig but I think it'd just be more efficient to get a new rig completely rather than swap out parts) so anything gained from selling this one would be put straight into this one.

Brilliant, Cheers guys! I'm going to look at putting my order in at the end of this week based on your recommendations. On a side note, would you be able to give me an idea on what would be reasonable to charge for my current rig? I don't want to charge too little or charge too much

Personally, I'd go with the Gen 4 hard drive...simply because it's only like £17 or so over the Samsung so feel that amount makes it worth it. Could also possibly up the RAM to the 3600MHz one as that would still be within budget

It's slower, I never recommend the 500GB Gen 4 as it's more expensive and slower. You need to go for the 1TB drive for it to make sense ;)

Fair enough...it's just a really strange one as it is significantly faster on read speed but a bit slower on write speed. I really have no understanding on which is the more important...though I suppose it depends what it is used for but would gaming not be utilising more reading from disk than writing to disk? Just wondering for my own knowledge

It depends really, any pagefile, caching, etc that is done by the OS or softwares will use the write speed dramatically. Gaming tends to just use the VRam over a page file but depends on the resolution and utilisation etc.

Yeah, they messed up with that I think. They could have easily had a clean sweep over the whole config if they had similar specs. It's a shame really as the 1TB(+) drive is a monster.
