I recently purchased this:

I've now had enough time with it to really get to know it. It plays everything really well apart from initially SWJS which the forum kindly helped me solve by changing a few things. So I'm really pleased with performance.

One thing I have noticed is that it does get pretty loud on some games. SWJS seems to get really loud and I recently purchased Remnant 2 which also get really loud. What fan is it that is making all the noise? I have read multiple reviews of the iCUE H100i ELITE CAPELLIX XT RGB and they all say it is quiet. I've had a look at the Icue software and put the fans onto quiet but that does ramp up the temps and I worry if it is ok to game with the fans set to quiet? I think because this was such a big outlay for me financially, I'm always paranoid about temperatures in particular. On a side note what temperatures can the current and junction temps safely run at for extended periods of time?

I also wonder if it is the CORSAIR iCUE H100i ELITE CAPELLIX XT RGB. Could it be the front and back fans that are making the noise? Or the Graphics card fans?
Are there any practical steps I can take to lower the noise? One thing to mention is that some games are much louder than others. Remnant 2 and Star Wars are loud. Could it be the games that are the problem?

Finally, I have opened the case to clean the inside of the machine but very little dust even gets into it. The case is really good at keeping dust out.

You need to isolate the fan causing the noise and then you can adjust the fan curve

You can monitor fan speeds, or isolate the fans one by one by disabling the others.

You can set custom fan curves to get the best of noise vs performance.

Firstly you need to identify the fan causing the noise. You can unplug case fans or disable them in whatever fan software you're using.

Then you can use a pencil or something to trap remaining fans to find rhe one that's causing the noise.

Or just check fan speeds on the fan software you're using to see which ones are running at high rpm that correspond with the noise.

I did a stress test on the AMD Software and fans were quiet. I don't think it is the fans on the case but I don't have any way of testing these...

I have the iCUE software for the H100i. I assume these are what are causing the noise.

If you did a stress on AMD and that didn't make the noise then it's not going to be the h100i is it as that's the cpu cooler

My guess is its the gpu fans. Check which gpu model you have by using the lookup button in gpu-z and let us know

No I did the test on the GPU. You can run a GPU Stress Test on the AMD Software.

When I lower the fans to quiet on the iCUE then the it does get quieter.

So by doing the GPU stress test on AMD Software that would test the GPU fans right? Not the H100i... The stress test on the GPU is quiet, very quiet. When I game, the noise is pretty loud. I assume it is the H100i because when I use iCUE and set the fans to quiet then there is a noticeable change.

What profile do you have the H100i set on normally? It should be on balanced, not performance.

The noisiest fan on mine is the front-bottom case fan, as even at the same speeds as the two above it, it creates more noise due to being so close to the HDD cage with nowhere for the air to go.

I ended up removing the HDD cage and using an external HDD caddy for it (it is my backup drive), and then changed the individual fan profiles to come in gradually (middle starting first, then top, then bottom only ramping up if it starts to get really hot...but it was a lot of trial and error as to what profile and combination for the 3 fans produced the least noise under various scenarios.

Mine now all follow the 'same' shape curve, but start ramping up 5-10ºc after each other, so will all run at different speeds for the same temp, so that you don't have 3 fans all producing the same frequency of noise.

I have them set to balanced. On balanced they reach 1900 rpm gaming. Do they only affect the cpu temps? I ask this because when I have set them to quiet mode the junction temp on gpu has gone up a few degrees.

Tony I have 2 case fans one front and one back. Is there a way for me to configure these?

Sorry, misread the case you had...I thought it was an iCUE model (5000X), which comes with 3x Corsair fans on the front.

The positive from this is that you don't have 3 front fans to have to create profiles for...the negative from this is that you don't have 3 front fans to have to create profiles for :confused:

If the front & rear fans are not controlled by iCUE software, then you'll have to configure them via either the BIOS or via Asus FanXpert 4 (part of Asus AI Suite).

My advice would be to not use Asus software, not only is it terrible but it often conflicts with iCUE. I'd use getfancontrol.com instead.

With that CPU and GPU combo, one front fan is not enough, I'd be looking to fill the front with three 120mm fans. The GPU needs a flow of cool air inwards to case, otherwise all the heat it pushes out builds up on the case, which in turn would increase the CPU temp as the ambient temp in case rises.

I think you are right. If I had known initially, I would have definitely gone with three. The build was recommended on here to me and Pcspecialist didn't mention that it should have more front fans but I think it probably does.

What fans would you suggest? Also, I worry that I might not be able to install these and in doing so might mess up the existing cable management. Is it relatively straightforward with a video guide?

Also, would adding two fans to the front mean I'd have to add fans to the rear as well?

Thank you Martin. Will having just the one existing rear fan be ok for airflow when I install these three at the front?

So three intake at front, 2 exhaust on top, 1 exhaust at rear, nicely balanced system. And I agree with Martin, getting same fans as the ones on AIO would tie it all in nicely. And you'd be able to connect to icUE to control them
