After searching for about a week all over the internet and youtube I think I am going to settle for a laptop. For the value it is amazing and basically has everything model's like the Alienware M11X/M14X even with the CPU upgraded to i7 and the Graphics memory up from 1.5Gb to 2GB.

Do you think this model will run games like Tribes: Ascend, Battlefield 3, Sims 3 and Star Wars the old republic on medium/high settings at a smooth frame rate?

Also I have included the 'Killer wireless network card' simply because I want the best connection I can get along with the best performance.

And finally do you think if I was to put an additional graphics card would it make a huge different to gameplay?
(My budget is up to £900 btw) :)

Battlefield 3 on lowest preset should give you aroung 30-40 FPS on 64 player conquest maps. It should still be playable, especially if you are able to lock your framerate at 30 fps.

If you are willing to extend your budget to £1000.00, you could up to double your systems performance in Battlefield 3 by opting for a Vortex II instead.

GT555 vs GTX560

Just a comment. There are a couple of versions of the GT 555M. Some 128 some 192 bit. I know alienware use the fast one but I don't know about pcs

Yeah I'd definately like to know what Dell really puts in their Alienwares, after seeing a couple of videos on youtube even with just the basic 4GB RAM, 1.5Gb graphics memory and the i5 processor they can still get about high 20's low 30's FPS on High/Ultra settings on the GT 555M, it must be the highest version of the card you can get :/

The Dell XPS 17 and Alienware 14x use the 144 cores 590MHz (GF106), 192Bit DDR3 version, whereas the PCS Optimus laptops use the 144 cores 590MHz (GF106), 128Bit DDR3 version. The Alienware version is superior but in terms of real world performance the difference is barely noticeable.
