I'm returning to the PC side, having been sat on the Apple side for a few years. I wanted a relatively ( as far as PC/Laptops go ) future-proof machine to keep up with day-to-day life for 3 years or so. - The Macbook did, after all.

I've ordered the following Laptop:-

Chassis & Display
Recoil Series: 17" Matte QHD 240Hz sRGB 100% LED Widescreen (2560x1600)
Processor (CPU)
Intel® Core™ i9 24 Core Processor 13900HX (5.4GHz Turbo)
Memory (RAM)
64GB Corsair 4800MHz SODIMM DDR5 (2 x 32GB)
Graphics Card
NVIDIA® GeForce® RTX 4060 - 8.0GB GDDR6 Video RAM - DirectX® 12.1
1st M.2 SSD Drive
1TB SAMSUNG 990 PRO M.2, PCIe 4.0 NVMe (up to 7450MB/R, 6900MB/W)
Memory Card Reader
Integrated SD Memory Card Reader
AC Adaptor
1 x 280W AC Adaptor
Power Cable
1 x 1.5 Metre UK Power Cable (Kettle Lead)
Battery
Recoil Series Integrated 99WH Lithium Ion Battery
Thermal Paste
LIQUID METAL PERFORMANCE COOLING
Sound Card
Nahimic by SteelSeries 2 Channel HD Audio
Wireless Network Card
GIGABIT LAN & KILLER™ Wi-Fi 6E AX1675i M.2 GAMING + BLUETOOTH 5.3
Wireless Router/HomePlugs
WIRELESS N BROADBAND ROUTER (FOR CABLE USERS)
USB/Thunderbolt Options
1 x THUNDERBOLT 4 PORT + 3 x USB 3.2 PORTS
Keyboard Language
RECOIL 17 SERIES RGB BACKLIT UK KEYBOARD
Operating System
Windows 11 Home 64 Bit - inc. Single Licence [KUK-00003]

Aside from the RTX4060 (I play relatively low-demanding games, if I game) should be fine for my amateur editing and general use. I've upped the RAM and gone for a quicker SSD. I found this build great value and is very competitive in the custom market.

Whilst not top of the range and lightning fast, it's no slouch! A large step up from the Macbook!

Evening,

Cooling pads, are they worth it? - I'm aware of the issues with some pads, and the configuration of the cooling inlet vents, along with multiple fan options. I've ordered a laptop based on the 17" Recoil chassis and have not had the water-cooled setup. - just the liquid metal cooling option.

Would a regular Laptop stand work as well as a powered cooling pad? Are there any options that work better for the 17" recoil?

If you're taking the recoil, you may (should) go for the water cooling solution.
This chassis can run pretty hot with the hardware inside ^^

About the ram, i'm not sure you'll need 64 go, unless you're doing some photo editing and graphic "stuff"

You should take the golden warranty and the dead pixel guarantee. And don't take any antivirus, Windows defender do a great job.

Hum, I think it's all I can advice for now without the configuration link and the max budget ^^"

Thanks, Tron,

I do need the Laptop to be as portable as possible, as I travel. I've got a Desktop MAC I use when based at home. I did consider water cooling, but that's an extra component to carry. I do edit and render. Not on a professional level though. Just Low-level graphics and 4k video for Youtube.

I should add, I've since amended the build to a 4070 GPU.

I'll be using a cooling pad when I've analyzed the air inlet position on the chassis for what its worth.

Even with a cooling pad, the chassis won't be able to cool effectively without the watercooler. It's fine if you're out and about travelling to take the performance hit, but when you're at home, you'll want the watercooler, although it's modular so you can buy it at a later time if you want to spread out the cost.

But if you were thinking of using it entirely without the watercooler, then another model would be more suitable.
