First Desktop build - Coming from Gaming Laptops

Hi,
I need a desktop for gaming and work (Marketing so Adobe etc). So needs to be able to run well and be of high spec for games like GTA 5 and Watch Dogs etc and any new game in future which i like the look of.

I already own a curved 27" Quad HD monitor. Will this spec be a good spec for what I want and need. I also have a OS on another SSD to move over so no need for a fresh one.

Thanks in advance.

What refresh rate or make and model is your monitor?

Can you include the configuration link at the bottom of the quote please so we can edit it?

What's your max budget?

Hi thanks for your reply

The link for the configuration is https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/saved-configurations/amd-am4-gen3-pc/u8zT7mqsM8/

I was looking round a grand but don't mind a little more for the perfect spec.

My monitor is a AOC CQ27G2U/BK Quad HD 27" Curved VA Gaming Monitor - Black & Red 144 refresh rate

Around £1000 initially but could afford up to £1100 however I don't have a budget as such cause will opt for finance if over so much :)
So we need your max budget. It's rge maximum you're willing to spend, it doesnt change at all, it's a fixed amount that you've set yourself.

But £1100 isn't enough these days even for an entry level 1080p system. It certainly won't be enough to push that monitor, you'd need in excess of 1500

Here's what I reckon you can do for £1100 that would do a halfway decent job of that display. Its downside is that it's all relatively old parts now. It'll do a job, but if you were to spend a bit more you could have a machine with way more future.

Sorry for the confusion the problem with the budget is I don't know what to set for desktop I'll set a £1500 budget max 🙂

Thanks for your suggestion. The RAM was just more the merrier type of situation but 16gb would be good too.
I like the AMD CPUs so sticking with them never tried a graphics card from them only Nvidia hence the 3060 pick. But I might give them a try.

Don't know much about motherboards so thanks for your suggestion and I get your point on fast tracking it might stick to free option.

For windows my partner has a old laptop for scrap with windows 10 on so putting it on USB etc.

This would be a much better value option than the one I posted above. It's on AMD's newer Ryzen 7000 platform, which means it will be upgradable for much longer and in more ways. I don't think you need to spend up to £1500 for the best value for money.

Case
FRACTAL FOCUS 2 ARGB GAMING CASE (BLACK) Really good case
Processor (CPU)

AMD Ryzen 5 7600 Six Core CPU (4.0GHz-5.2GHz/38MB CACHE/AM5) The 7700 for an extra £80ish would be the place to spend a little more
Motherboard

ASUS® TUF GAMING B650-PLUS WIFI (DDR5, USB 3.2, 6Gb/s)
Memory (RAM)
32GB Corsair VENGEANCE DDR5 5600MHz (2 x 16GB) 32GB makes more sense at this price point, and is really essential for Ryzen 7000

Power Supply

Power Cable

1 x 1.5 Metre UK Power Cable (Kettle Lead, 1.0mm Core)

Thank you I'll consider this option as the main option of the 2 🙂 it might be nice to test a AMD Graphics are they the better options now to nvidia?
Similar to how the AMD is arguably better than Intel at this point.

That SSD sounds perfect, and you can always add more later if 1TB doesn't turn out to be enough.

The only other changes I think you've made are to the power supply and to the warranty. On the warranty, it's an extra fiver for significantly more coverage. I wouldn't go above the silver warranty personally, but I do think it's worthwhile.

With the power supply, the advantage of going higher than you technically need to go is that you can upgrade much more easily in the future. That little extra headroom is worth £20 in my book. Replacing a power supply (which I have done in my own system) is quite a faff and I'd definitely spend a little more now to avoid needing to upgrade it later.

Hi,
I paid for the extra warranty in end. I listened to what u have said with specs etc and ordered it to the specs you said and going to put my evo SSD in it as would save me a few quid from having new SSD. Thanks for your help I'm looking forward to seeing it soon 😄

An update: I decided to amend the order and add a 1Tb m.2 evo i think 970 for extra storage and for a little extra got my desktop fast-tracked because when excited I hate waiting lol xD

I wouldn't opt for the 970. The Corsair MP600 would be the best value 1TB offering :)

Thank you, The only reason I chose the evo was down to them always being my go to previously. :) I plan in the future too to keep this build and upgrade bits over time. :)

The 970 is a gen 3 card limited to half the speeds of a modern card. Its slow by todays standards.
