First laptop

Hi,

I had previous laptops off my job, but I just ordered my first personal one. I probably could have done with a cheap <£500 laptop but I decided to splash out on an Optimus IV for about £1000.

I'll be using it for mostly browsing :)shifty:) but also for some app development and games like Black Ops 2 and maybe FIFA. I got it with the bluray drive as well so I'll be hooking it up to the TV for watching films. Hoping it will last me a few years anyway!

Welcome to the forums :) You will now join the masses of us who sit here on the forums as we wait the long and painful wait for our orders to arrive. I'm only on my 4th working day!

Haha so true!
Luckily I just got an email this morning saying "Your order has now been built and is awaiting testing and configuration.".
Oddly enough though, the website still says "In Building". Either way, I'm counting the minutes until I get my Optimus 15.6" laptop.

It actually seems from reading on here that a lot of people went for similar/identical specs!
I went for the i7-3630QM, 120GB KINGSTON HYPERX 3K SSD with 1TB WD SCORPIO for storage, and the Intel ADVANCED-N 6235 wifi card. I've seen a few people order pretty much the same specs, though I did opt for the bluray (just for the sake of it).

I also went for no OS, which I'm worried I might regret. I've a friend who says Windows 8 is brilliant, but I've others who strongly suggest sticking with Windows 7. I suppose time will tell if I would have been better going for Windows 7, and upgrading to Windows 8, or just going directly to Windows 8. Oddly enough, I had toyed with the idea of putting Mac OSX on the laptop for a laugh (since its only about £20), and learning how to make iPhone apps. I reckon I'll just stick with Ubuntu though, until the OS choice has settled down.

I've gone down the Windows 7 route with the plan to upgrade for £15 if I feel like it.

And you're so lucky D: Mine is still sat in pre-production. It has to be the longest wait ever.

Pre-production? Pfft, I got a text this morning just after 7am saying mine was dispatched!

I doubt it will get here by Friday so I reckon it'll be Monday before I'm able to play my FarmVille** again!!! ;)

**thats a joke btw...

I know how you feel, I can't wait to play Tetris on my GTX 670.

It should get to you by Friday? I'm pretty sure once they tell you it's dispatched it should only be 24-48 hours. I could be wrong.

Well you're about 3/4 working days behind me so it will be next Thurs/Fri when you get yours. BTW, I'm on my 10th working day today.

Also, I'm in Dublin so delivery is 2/3 days. I suspect it will sit in DPD until tonight, when its flown over, left in the depot here until tomorrow (Thurs) afternoon, when its processed and delivered the next morning (Friday). I just hope my brother is home to receive it!!
I got lucky the last time when I ordered a (faulty) Lenovo Y580 coz he was home. Not so sure if I'll be as lucky this time. I definitely don't fancy having to wait until Monday to collect it from the depot!

I'm the same, my brother is probably going to have to be the one receiving it. Hopefully if they text me a timeframe I'll nip home from work but we'll see! I'm hoping they're gonna fly through the building :(

but I wonder do they cover a dead brother.... ;)
I suspect not :)

But I know the feeling, when my PC was delivered it arrived at 8:15 in the morning (I paid for before 10 delivery), and then I had to go to work for the whole day, I really did get no work done and was clock-watching all day

I imagine I'm going to be the same. I'm hoping to dart away from work if they text me a timeslot through but then I know I'd struggle to take myself back in! Might have to fake a car accident!

I've been sick all week with a bad cold. I was honestly very close to pulling a sicky this morning. But I thought better of it in the end. At least I have the whole weekend now to play around with it. I know for a fact my missus is gonna be ****ed of at the lack of attention I give her. Between this laptop, and the football tomorrow, I'll barely say 2 words to her!! haha
