Found new folder on c drive

found a new folder which I haven't seen before..
It's a bunch of random letters and numbers as the file name and inside there's an application called MRT.

Are these files safe? should I just delete them?

I think that may be the Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool, If I type MRT into the search programs and files box, thats what I get.

I remember doing a bunch of windows updates, could it be that?

It's a temporary folder created by a Windows update. They are normally deleted after installation of the updates but sometimes they are missed.
You can safely delete it.
