Games don't recognize custom resolution

Hi,

Since the windows 10 creators update I've had issues with custom resolutions. At first I'd click apply and it wouldn't change res would just go back to default one but I sorted that with a clean install of graphic drivers but now even when I change resolution no games recognize that the resolution has changed. Even If I set a 1080p res with a 100hz refresh rate instead of the default 75hz games don't allow me to go to 100hz. I have an Octane III 17 inch model with a GTX 1080.

Does anyone have a solution?

I've seen this myself. Try running the game as administrator (right-click the shortcut, click advanced, click the run as administrator check box).

Once you've got it set how you like, you can reverse it.

And yeah - it was fine for me before creators edition too. Think there're added security on folders somewhere but haven't dug.

Annoyingly can't seem to revert to older version of windows 10 annoyingly. Even GTA 5 doesn't launch until you move a dll file from system32 folder to the gta 5 game directory. Shall try running games as admin.

Hmm moving the DLL shouldn't be necessary unless the search path has gone odd

Try this - open a command prompt and type

PATH=%PATH%;%WINDIR%\System32\

Was crashing at launch on the social club login bit. Had to move the d3d9.dll file from system32 to the games directory possibly setting the path in command prompt might have also sorted it. I tried running hitman 2016 as admin and still didn't recognize the custom res. Even using Nvidias DSR setting it doesn't allow a higher res than 1080p. I did however go into the compatibility tab and checked the override DPI scaling option or whatever it is with the drop down menu so to application and while it didn't show as 1440p I'm not 100% if the scaling was set to 1440p seemed to look a bit better quality than running 1080p tho my FPS wasn't effected so not too sure.
