Hi All,
I'm hoping to get a new system from PCS soon (when the 9th gen info is released), but I'm struggling to understand the functionality differences between the two generations of motherboards. I'm keen to spend a little more now and have plenty of options further down the line but it is clear that one of PCS' Z390 boards is an entry level offering and some of the higher end Z370 boards might be better. This leaves me a bit confused and reading motherboard reviews hasn't helped much (I'm too ignorant to distinguish between generally useful future-proofing and gimmicks). On top of this, it seems you can pay as much as you like for a motherboard and some of the top options add a huge chunk to my build cost. I have the budget for the the most expensive if it makes sense *edit*(£2k if needed, £1.5 if possible!)*edit* but I don't want to spend more than is warranted.
I don't know if this info helps or even makes much sense:
It is for gaming primarily (PUBG and TWW2 currently), though I also use a Vive pro and occasionally bring work projects home (Blender based 3D modelling, some statistical software to run ANNs)
I have a 1440p 144Hz Gsync monitor for gaming and a second HD monitor.
I'm keen on having a mid/full tower case (plenty of room for future tinkering) with a front-facing USB 3.1.
In-built wifi or Bluetooth are a bonus but neither is required. I added a wifi card below because we may be moving soon and I want options, but I currently use a cable.
I'm currently using a single 1080ti GPU, but if I get the budget for 4K gaming I'd consider newer/multiple (if NVlink turns out to be useful) GPUs in the future.
I'd like to start with one M.2 NVMe SSD but may potentially want to add extra in the future.
This is my current starting point for a build (subject to today's reviews and PCS's speed in offering pre-overclocked 9th gen options) using the cheapest Z390:

I'm also aware that 2700X or I9-9900k might well be the smarter choice, we should see later today. I'd appreciate any opinions or advice you lot could offer.
