Gaming laptop ~£800

Hi all

I'm a big noob with this and have been on the fence whether to go for laptop or desktop for a new computer. After talking to my partner I have decided that it would probably be best to stick with my original plan and go for a gaming laptop.

I have posted a few other threads to do some research and gone through other people's posts on specs I have been considering but still don't know which I should go for.

I originally had a budget of about £500 but have decided I'm able to up this to ~£800.

I'm looking for a system that's relatively future proof, I'd like to be able to play games like Fallout 3/Vegas, Diablo 3, Dota 2 and Skyrim on High settings, and comfortably play new releases like Fallout 4 or MGS5 and Witcher 3 on lower settings.

From what I've read, I might be able to get a good spec for a Proteus II or Optimus VI case but would appreciate more experienced input as I really don't know the first thing about what I'd need to get to achieve the above games playing well.

Many thanks for the patience

Check out the 15.6 Proteus II, it's a bit over £800 but is the best bang for buck laptop PCS sell, and will last you quite a while. The GPU will handle new games on high/ ultra settings. Have a look at some benchmarks.

Thanks for the reply! The article on the GPU was very useful too

I did check out the Proteus II and it is the laptop I'm most likely to go for. One thing I'd noticed in other post is it doesn't have an internal DVD drive? Does this mean I'll have to also buy an external one along with the laptop in order to install the OS that comes with it?

A disc drive is not necessary to install/reinstall Windows as it can be done using a small file from a memory stick or hard drive.

To be honest, you could look into picking up an OS elsewhere and save a bit of money. If you are a student or know a student you can pick up Windows directly from Microsoft for about £45.

Cheers, Nick
