Gaming machine for my son

Hi all - looking to get some advice on the below spec, I've not ordered just yet (but will do in the next week or so).
Concerns are;

1. Is this mid-tower case any good, would be good to hear from an owner! Aim is to have a nice quiet case but with a window to show off the flashy lights :) and is it a good fit for the below motherboard?

2. How does the motherboard stack up? I would of thought at this price point thunderbolt would of been included? Just thinking out loud for future proofing (then again, doesn't look like any the drop down selections have this option).

3. Is the H115 over kill on the over cooling (not looking to overclock any time soon, maybe later on).

I would appreciate any other thoughts or recommendations! £2500 is really my absolute max budget (started off at £2000 ;) )

Before we get into the build, can I ask what monitor he'll be using? Make and model or resolution and refresh rate would be handy to know (y)

And will he be using it for anything other than gaming? What sort of stuff does he play?

Hi Thanks for your response, I've not got as far as that and will be another cost. Basically looking at 4k monitor (4K Ultra HD 3840 x 2160p), open to suggestions to be honest maybe at @144Hz. But I realise for this kit, the monitor needs to be high spec. Does it need to have GSYNC or FREE SYNC to get the most out of gaming on this rig?

I've had a bit of a play about with the spec and come up with this for you. A 12 core CPU should be more than enough for a gaming build so I've changed that and the motherboard to match it. The NZXT case is pretty but isn't the best for airflow so I've opted for the stunning Corsair 680X. Cooling unit has been changed to the RGB Platinum (which has even more flashy lighting!). Altered the storage so there's a fast 500GB boot drive and then another 1TB for fast storage. Also a standard HDD for things that gain no benefit from being on an SSD like music and pics. I've also pasted a couple of good monitor options at the bottom. Let me know what you think!

Hey @AgentCooper my thinking on the spec is I rather get components you cant change so easily now for future proofing, so like the CPU and go for the 5950X proc. I rather just have 1TB M.2 flash now, and then later can add additional SSD/Non-SSD to the build. The case although looks amazing, I think practically is a little wide for where its going to be placed, any suggestions on another cheaper case? Also what's your thoughts on the Crosshair VIII Hero? Better board than the X570-F for the setup?

Hi there. So...

Unless your son is doing extremely heavy video editing and copious amounts of 3D modelling, a sixteen core CPU like the 5950X simply isn’t needed. Its not about future proofing, it’s about the application and uses. Put it this way, I’m rocking an eight core processor on my system and it covers any game I’d ever want to play admirably. If he’s not a design professional, the 5950X will be wasted on him.

Don’t mean to sound curt in my response, but I’d hate for you to be throwing money away that’s much better spent elsewhere.

Understood! thanks! He will be doing graphics and video editing hence going top end.

Wow, that is quite a PC for gaming and video editing, unless he is virtually a professional designer you are literally wasting money. It's the top mainstream PCU money can buy.
Lucky boy!
