GDDR5 vs GDDR5x in Octane III

Hey everyone,

I'm posting this as I've read online that all GTX1080 laptop video cards are using GDDR5X memory, but the Octane III GTX1080 only has GDDR5?
Can someone please clear this up for me :D?

Thanks!

Clevo indicate clearly that the 1080 has GDDR5x: http://www.clevo.com/clevo_prodetail.asp?id=946&lang=en

The PCS configurator seems to have a few typos in it, possibly the result of copy-pasta errors. Like the Cosmos V 950M being listed as DDR3 still when the Clevo site and users who have bought it have said it has GDDR5 (probably because the configurator was based off whatever template they had for the DDR3 950M Cosmos IV).

If you're still in doubt then do ask for PCS to confirm it in writing, but I don't believe there are any GTX 1080s without GDDR5x in existence for that chassis :)

Hi Oussebon,

Thanks for the quick reply!
I was thinking the same thing, but I've asked someone from PCS through *live chat* and I've been told that this GTX1080 doesn't have GDDR5X ;) that's why I was a bit confused.

I am quite sure that it is GDDR5X as you said as well and it is a copy-paste error.
Thank you again!

As above, there is no such thing as a GTX1080 with GDDR5, they are GDDR5x and the 1070 has the GDDR5.

I wish they would give someone a couple of days to just sit and go through the entire configuration system to make sure the details are correct. They are causing a lot of confusion.

My guess is that they looked up what the configurator said and told you that. Which if true probably isn't great service on that particular occasion.
