Getting back into PC Gaming

Hiya Everyone,

I used to be a pretty big PC gamer back in the day. When I say that, I haven't done very much PC-based gaming since around 2005. The last game I was psyched over was back in 2003, with the release of Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy. Loved playing around with all the mods, etc. Pre-source Counterstrike, Unreal Tournament, Unreal Tournament UT2004 and Solider of Forture 2 were other amazing games I'd spend hours of time on along with Baldurs Gate and Neverwinter Nights. =] Aaah, life back then! =P

I'm not just writing nostalgia for the sake of it. I do have a point, or rather a question! Haha =] The gaming scene seems to develop faster and faster these days. Since I have been out of it for so long, I was wondering if anyone could mention/suggest any must-haves over the past couple of years that I have no doubtly missed in-absentia. =] Any classics from 2004-onwards!

I'd say i'm a pretty open-minded kind of guy, but we do have our favourite genres, so to speak, and I think I'm into anything that has a pretty solid narrative. I generally get bored quickly if the story isn't very indepth. If the multiplayer makes up for it though, as is the case with many FPS's, then I don't mind - providing there is still some sort of active community. Quake 3 was still going strong when I was playing, and my favourite game was running the same engine at the time. (JK: Jedi Academy).

RPGs, Adventures, Action, First Persons, i'll generally play anything.

I humbly ask you gaming gods and experts! =] I have recently ordered a rig that is in the processing stage now. I do a lot of imagery, video and audio editing so I generally need a pretty good spec PC. Thought i'd cement it with some good games, and get back into the obsession - whilst I am a grown up working man these days! :p

=] Thanks everyone,

Leigh

Good stuff so far everyone. Keep them coming!

Silent Hunter III seems like such a refreshing change. I'm only familiar with racing and flight simulators. Look forward to checking that out, hopefully I have the attention span these days. =P I find myself submitting to outbursts of Adult ADD these days for some reason! =[

The Elder Scrolls series; is it a worthwhile investment? I never had the chance to play Morrowind back in the day. Would it be worth going through the back catelogue? :)
