GPU advice for a pal

Hey guys,

I'm asking this on behalf of a friend that has bought his son an entry level gaming pc for Xmas, its currently packing a ATI HD6450.

He is wanting to play new games like crysis 3 on medium setting with no AA and such, I don't have the rest of the systems spec at the moment, but know he's got a AMD processor.

He is going to at least upgrade the gpu and psu and needs to do it all for about £200.

Can anyone advise what gpu would be ideal for his needs please?

I was thinking the HD 6870 2gb version but is there a better card for the job?

He could get a 7850 for roughly the same price and he'd be on the latest line...with better performance...

Which card would be the better manufacture msi or sapphire ect? Trying to get him the best available for his cash.

Any reference card from any manufacturer will offer you similar performance unless you are looking at an over locked version.

Or even the 7870 at not much more with 2 free games from scan...
Will a 500W PSU do the job at hand? He not going to be going down the crossfire route.

500W will be fine for the cards being mentioned, newer cards are also a little more power efficient as well as quicker.

Cheers for you help fella's, you've been a great help as I'm a little outta the loop when it comes to modern pc's and had a ton of advice on here when I got my rig.

The 7870 should be ok for crysis on med setting wont it?
