GPU Crossfire Help

Hi There,

I purchased a computer from PC Specialist just over two years ago (08/04/2012) and have not had any problems but I have just bought a 2nd monitor and tried to plug it into my second card but nothing happened. It appears that my crossfire is no longer enabled and that my second card is no longer being picked up (I have two Radeon HD6870's). I can't see it in device manager and I have used GPU-Z and it's not being picked up anywhere although the fan is working on the card so its still booting up.
Anyone have any ideas on how to get it working again bar sending it back as I have the 3 year warranty.

On a slightly related note the new screen I bought, an ASUS VG284QE 24', has weird sparkly green/purple pixel things all over the place on dark colours. I was wondering if anyone has had a similar issue? I am tempted to go buy another DVI cable to check if it's that but I am using the cable that came in the box. I suppose it's also possible that its a default so I will get in touch with ASUS in the meantime.

Any help would be appreciated.

I'd suggest ensuring all your drivers are up to date. If they are go into the catalyst control centre and see if you can enable crossfire. Failing that, switch off the PC - remove the graphics card and re-seat it, reconnecting the crossfire cable between the cards. See if it has appeared in device manager etc.

If it still isn't appearing you could try to do a clean installation of the drivers, completely remove them and then reinstall them. Then its probably worth contacting PCS - you might only have to send one card back if they agree its faulty and cant figure out a fix.

Just to clarify, are you attaching the 2nd monitor to the primary card or to the second card?

As far as I'm aware if you are running crossfire, you need to have all your monitors connected to the primary card for them to work.

Additionally ensure you have your crossfire bridge connected up linking to the two cards together (you only need 1=>1 even if there are 2 crossfire connectors on each of your cards)

You should probably try re-seating your cards (pull them out and put them back in) to ensure they are connected properly
