GPU Load + Temps Query

Hey Guys,

Sorry I keep coming back here for your thoughts but you seem to be reasonably clued up! ;-)

I'm recently downloaded MSI afterburner to monitor my FPS, GPU Load and Temps while in game (not to play with any of the clock stuff, it miles beyond me).

Anyway long story short is playing BF3 I noticed that the load continuously sit at 97/98% and the temp peaks at 79/80 and stays there while playing. Is this too hot, seems a little excessive and speed fan things anything above 50 is 'on fire'. Any help would be greatly received with Reps ;-).

On another note I'd like to know if there is any software out there similar to afterburner than lets me monitor stats in game but without the ability to alter any of the clocks/voltages of my hardware (don't want to ruin my machine by accident) ;-).

Thanks in advance

oh full spec of machine is on this thread:

What do you mean by speed fan above 50%, when gaming I set mine at around 70%. The temps you have seems a bit high but nothing to worry about, try to increase the speed of the fans.

Hi Keynes,

Sorry my poor explanation. 'Speedfan' the application shows any temp above 50 degrees with a little flame icon.

My GPU and other fans are running at out the box settings.

Sorry again for the poor explanation.

Any suggestions on good fan profiles? Also anyone got a picture of what the default fan profile looks like for the 770?

Why do you need the default fan profile? You need to go to Settings/fan and then increase the fan speed for high temperatures. I have 60% for anything above 60 degrees and 100% for anything above 80'C

Ok thanks Keynes.

I wanted the default so I could ensure that the profile I created was not less than the default.

Default is Auto, or 40%* and then it increases exponentially, personally I prefer to keep it on Auto as custom profiles are ok if you set multiple temperature checkpoints (i.e. you bump fan up by 10% for 10C increase etc; not just a couple of profiles. You also run into the inconvenience o fincreasing chances of cold-solder occuring when you power-off your computer for the night with a custom profile unless you set plenty of checkpoints for increasing and decreasing fan speed. By the time you've done all that you may as well have just left the fan on Auto coz your custom fan graph now looks virtually like the Auto fan speed graph. As for 80C, that's not worryingly hot for your GPU and it will continue to run fine at those sorts of temps (chances are something else will fail on the card before the chip get to the end of its lifespan).

*If you have an unlocked fan profile then your fan speed can be as low as 25% or 30%

What Sleinous said. My 780 runs completely of its own accord when it comes to fan speeds and always sits at 80 degrees when gaming. Nothing to worry about.
