Calling on phoenix or sleinous,(or anyone who knows)I just cant get to grips with this,& i have searched,i have a 1gb ati radeon hd 5870 gpu,but the 6870 according to some posts is more advanced, indeed you would think that by the number, thing is 5870 is more expensive. im beginning to regret not getting nvidia gpu,i have one in my old pc & i think its brilliant, but before buying new pc i did look into it in great detail on other sites as well, & the ati 5870 got my vote, now im reading posts only this morning that having an asus mobo with nvidia gpu is the way to go,i have an asus m4a87td mobo.another thing is i dont seem to have a control panel for this ati card, with my old nvidia i just right clicked & their it was.do you think i should try to get what i can for my ati 5870 & buy an nvidia card.To be fair i havent really tried out the ati card ive got.sorry for rabbiting on but i hope you get my drift.

1. The HD5870 is better than the HD6870.

2. There will always be people who are Nvidia fans, just like there are also AMD/ATi fans. The card you have is a very powerful performing card. Unless you feel it's not up to scratch and want better, stick with it and have faith in your purchase. :)

In terms of pure frames per second the HD5870 is better, when crossfired the HD6870 does beat the HD5870 crossfired in some games but it's not by a large margin. The HD5870 is still a great card and will let you max out any game though so there's nothing to worry about. You can use software like MSI after burner to control your graphics card but just be aware that overclocking it voids your warranty and can sometimes have an unpleasant outcome (greybing nearly killed his GTX460).

Yep, they named there cards quite oddly but, the 5870 is nearly always faster than the 6870 so I wouldnt worry about your purchase :)
