Grand Theft Auto IV Problems

Grand Theft Auto IV will not open at all using Steam. It asks for me log in details to access multiplayer, I press log in... Nothing.

I also try PLAY - Offline, but still nothing.

I'm not bothered about online multiplayer, just campaign. Any ideas?

Thanks

Have you looked through the steam help forums seen as you have it on steam anyway i just had a look and the nearest thing i could see was this.

"
The Application Has Failed To Launch"
Cause: Bug when downloading GTAIV through Steam.
Credit: SmileSkill
Solution:

1) Manually navigate to the Steam folder
2) Open "SteamApps"
3) Open "Common"
4) Open "Grand Theft Auto IV"
5) Open the "RGSC" folder
6) Double click "RGSCLauncher"
7) Click back
8) Open "GTAIV"
9) Double click "LaunchGTAIV.exe"

After completing these steps, GTAIV should launch successfully whether you open through Steam or "LaunchGTAIV.exe"

If that does not solve it have a good look through the >help forums< oh and have you verifyed the integrity of the game cache files ? if not then right click the game from the steam library then select properties and then the local files tab and hit the button that says verify integrity of game cache.

I already done the integrity check. Thanks.

I followed those steps but get stuck at "Open RGSC" folder. There is no such folder there?

Have you checked its not a hidden folder? Try adding RGSC/ to the end of the directory name...

Have you tried turning off UAC as i find that to be one of the biggest problems with conflicts and games and installs.

Have you checked to make sure your firewall is not blocking GFWL or the rockstar program and the game itself.

Could be worth uninstalling and then download it again just to rule out a corrupt install.

*Edit* Is the game fully patched to latest version ? i have not played this for over a year and have a retail disc version but the updates i am pretty sure i had to do it manually, i know steam normally does all the updates for you but you never know.

What's UAC?

I've also reinstalled both LA Noire and GTA.

I turned off my anti virus and firewall, but still nothing.

How would i know if its the latest version?

What operating system are you running, My brother couldn't get his GTA IV to work and iirc he had to edit the compatibilty of the game under properties & set it to Windows Vista

Go to control panel/user accounts/change user account control settings/put the slider down to "never notify"/you may have to restart computer.

I looked on the net and found out how and already have it to this option. Thanks though :(

Thanks, I just looked and its turned off (Never notify option) :(
You edited the question I answered"how do I turn UAC off",to the above, which made things a bit confusing.
Anyway I had problem with a steam game which wouldn't start & turning on UAC solved it,so maybe worth a try.:)

Bought and installed Dead Space 2 and this is also not working, im thinking ive wasted my money here.

Ok im progressing slowly but surely, Ive run a registry cleaner which i paid for ;/ and now atleast I am getting a error message for GTA4.

Error: GTA IV FATAL ERROR: Windows Vista: Need to have Service Pack 1 or higher to proceed.

I dont even have Vista? I have Windows? any ideas? :)

LA Noire is now working, time to deal with GTA!
