Graphics card question

Hi again everyone,

My puter is still in the build stage and is being held up by the non-availability of the GTX 650 ti graphics card I ordered. It will apparently be in on Monday.

However, having too much time on my hands, and in keeping with the usual practice of using the Configurator to while away the hours, I tried out a different graphics card to see how much it was - the GTX 660 - £43 extra.

I hopped over to anandtech and passmark and did the reading. It wipes the floor with the 650 ti on just about every measure - especially cudas and rendering. And if I don't feed the kids for a few days, the £43 is easily found. I intend keeping this outfit for at least four years and I want a high enough spec all round to get me that far.

My question is - could it cause my build any problems especially where heat is concerned and basically is it a good move? Here is a refresher of my spec which I want for photo and video editing above all but games won't be out of the question, especially if I hang around this forum much longer! -

I have emailed PCS with similar concerns and also to ask if it is in stock but as yet no reply.

PS - I also read that the 650 ti is a non-starter with respect to 1920x1080 rez which is a vid spec as you know.

Are you planning to SLI? If you are concerned about heat you could upgrade the case and get the P8Z77-V LX unless you are planning to SLI or you need the additional ports.

No to the SLI. I don't really need it (I don't think). I chose the V motherboard because of the connectivity. I felt the LX was a bit short. I might also whack in another fan or leave the side panel off if it doesn't disrupt the airflow negatively.

PS - I don't really want to change the case (although looking at some of them I could easily) because the computer is already built except for the graphics card.

PPS - Just checked - cannot change case in the building stage. Fair enough. I wouldn't want it all pulled out and put back; that's asking for trouble.
