Graphics Card update query

Hi all

My PC Specialist PC may be getting a bit long in the tooth, bought in 2012

I7 3820 intel processor
16 Gb 1600Mhz ram
GeForce GTX 680 2GB Graphics.

Those are the basics. Could I get away with buying a Geforce 980 or 1080 graphics card to allow me to play PC titles on my 4k TV ( so 3820 x 2160 ) at a good frame rate on my current setup?

You would need a 1080ti for 4K really, but yes, shouldn’t be too much of a bottleneck.
