GTX 670 or HD 7970?

With AMD providing the graphics for the next generation of consoles, will we start seeing more titles made for AMD cards?

I am starting to have second thoughts over having selected the GTX 670 in my build... should I go for the HD 7970 instead?

What would your arguments be for and against?

I think there is a lot of bias in favour of Nvidia cards floating about on the net,I myself have an AMD 5870 and it's a great card.
I would have no hesitation about getting the HD 7970.

its a personal choice really, go with your gut.

I like Nvidia, however, I aint tried AMD, so cant compare the two.

I dont really think it matters who makes the card, be it nvidia or AMD they can all play the latest titles anyway.

I have done it. Made the amendment from a 670 to a 7970... hoping it was the right move!

I don't think I've ever had a nVidia card before... I'm not sure.

But right now I have a 7950 which I am very pleased with, it runs a lot of the high games on high/ultra...

I've been playing BF3 on high fine, Tomb Raider on high, Far Cry 3 maxed out. So with you getting te 7970 you'll run games fine, you've also probably saved yourself some money too

The great debate Nvidia or AMD .

I've had both Nvidia and AMD in the past, I've personally had a better time with Nvidia. With AMD I've experienced more problems in games (But to be fair, the latest AMD card I have used is a HD 2400 pro, so newer ones are more than likely to be vastly improved since that one in how they handle games).

The most notable game I had trouble with when playing on an AMD/ATI card would be NWN (One of the most played games of mine), ATI doesn't seem to like that game much and even with tweaks to the .ini file that normally improve performance, I still had some problems but were atleast reduced, but being 10+ years old, I suppose that doesn't help with it's major out-of-date status.

It's a big gap from the 2400 I currently have to just about any GPU now, Nvidia or AMD, but as long as I can manage the price I'll always be going for Nvidia, myself.

I have heard good things from newer AMD GPU's, though, in comparison to older cards and how they handle games, best thing to do is go with your own preference and maybe just look up reviews etc, but take most with a pinch of salt, I would say.

Both are great desktop cards and I'm sure you'll love your 7970.

On another note, been wondering if anyone else has noticed, AMD seem to have gone on a sponsorship frenzy lately. Nearly every game I've seen has had an "AMD Gaming Evolved" intro clip, whereas it nearly always used to be NVIDIA.

the hd 7970 was a little more expensive than the 670, but only by £20 or so. I think I have made the right choice as I understand that the 7970 can be over clocked quite considerably.

This will be my first AMD card after having always had Nvidia (9600, GTX460 and GTX560). I actually still love the 560. That too had great over clocking abilities and runs BF3 (the only game I actually play on PC) with everything on ultra. Can't wait for BF4!

I'd be careful with overclocking your gpu since it voids your warranty. At stock clock speed the HD 7970 is a very good gpu.

Hmm, you could've left the card out if you've built it on PCS, and got it from somewhere else and choose your own brand, that have modified their cards etc.

I've got loads of work computers for high end GPU processing work. I use Nvidia and ATI cards and I find Nvidia drivers much easier to work with and a bit more stable. Where the ATI cards are of use they are supremely fast at mathematics. That doesn't always translate into gaming performance but ATI are still very much in the game.

I thought the new gtx6xx's where more power efficient? That has to be a big factor nowadays.
