GTX 970M Throttling

Hi,

I was recently running 3DMark Firestrike and getting around 7000 overall. However in the details it is saying the core speed is 540mhz. Similar computers are running at well over 8000 for example http://www.3dmark.com/fs/4300501. Is there any reason why the card would be throttling so far? I've already made sure adaptive power use isn't active and max performance however it is still doing this. It can't be temperatures as I've monitored them and they never go above 60 degrees.

I have a GTX 980M having the same issue.

Yeah I'm not very happy about it tbh I think its the drivers from nvidia so I'm going to use custom drivers.

I don't think you can expect that sort of score. In the example you have given above it looks like both the cpu and gpu have been over clocked. People also turn off/down various visual treats in Nvidia control panel to gain a higher score.
What you really need to do is use proper games as a benchmark, don't worry whether a program reports the clock speed incorrect either.

According to notebookcheck you should be getting---

Firestrike Graphics:7451.5 Firestrike Overall: 6531

You are getting---

Firestrike Graphics:7560 Firestrike Overall: 6658

Doesn't look like there's anything to worry about. The fact that your score is marginally higher is probably down to your beast of a CPU.

last test I did I got 7300 overall so it's an improvement just the damn throttling it's so annoying. It does it when they gpu isn't even hot, you'll be gaming and all of a sudden half the fps because your cards dropped to 540mhz

The majority of tests, 126 when i checked, are getting a score around 7000

Notebook checker also advise a Firestrike score of 7268 http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-970M.126694.0.html

There can be a few reasons there are higher scores, Better CPU can rank the score up and people over clocking will also cause them to get a better score.
