The craziest part of the story for me (aside from people actually wanting Intel CPUs) is that GPUs are now being sold for less than retail price in China.

As there's been that crackdown on crypto-mining in China, I'm supposing that the combination of that and these new cards with lower hash rates has everything to do with it. What I'm wondering is will the effects of this reach us?
