Hello folks,


First off let me apologize in advance for my sometimes lacking english skills mostly due to an overconsumption of cheese and wine (AKA being French)

Everyone seems to describe the reason that brings them here, so here it is : my previous laptop an Asus G75 named Alfred, committed seppuku in july (may he rest in peace). Since then I have had little time to look for a replacement, and when I finally could, nothing seemed good enough or the way I wanted it. Until I came across PCS and its myriad of excellents reviews, commentaries, its awesome company policies not to mention the good prices.

So here I am, all this awesomeness backfiring, making me unable to make my mind on the exact set-up I wanna get! I hope I can get some help and maybe some answers, though you already provided a lot of them - it is my first personalized computer after all.

Thanks a lot for all the material already present, that I read voraciously.

Hi Vorian, welcome.
I hope you find a good new Alfred, if you keep the name - all of my PCs, laptops are called Erik.
What caused the end of Alfred? If the hardware is gone there is not much chance of saving it but if there is still a bit of life in it it could be saved. I had an old Acer Aspire which took ages to boot up, sometime not at all, but I tried a Linux distro on it and it now works as a good spare.

You've come to the right place, as you've seen there are lots of friendly and helpful people on here. If you specify what you want to use your new Alfred for and what your maximum price is you'll get several suggested configurations from which you can choose and fine-tune. The people who know more about these things that I will also gladly help you tweak your config so that it meets your needs perfectly.

@Stephen : I was playing and suddenly Alfred stopped, smoke emerged from the the fans vent ... I took it in to see if it could be fixed but apparently the board under the power entry melted and thus the power entry cannot be replaced ... :/ I took the hard drives out and I'm using them as external drives now ... I'm not sure I can salvage anything else ...
