I'm 'new', though bought my laptop from PCS back in '07...I hope that doesn't make my laptop too 'old hat'....though I am beginning to wonder..

Thanks for the replies. :) Have to say it has been a brilliant laptop and is still pretty quick...well, quick enough for my 'old' games......but the dreaded dead graphics card has reared its head and trying to get a genuinely new replacement is a headache..

A shiney new Vortex II will do you fine for a few years. If you think about it, it really is a nice investment. (Which will depreciate and eventually stop working)

I have to agree..I would love one.....but given the less than helpful or accurate response I got from PCS regarding a replacement graphics card for my old lappie it does not currently inspire confidence in me to buy another one...hence I have signed up here to see if they can redeem themselves....after they ignored my second email.. ;)

I found the service manual for the Vortex II, which details replacing everything including CPU and GFX cards.

As far as I am aware, it's actually pretty difficult to source 'graphics cards' for laptops once they're a couple of years old, I assume it's cos they never stay on the market for that long, but I don't actually know.

Your email may just be a queue waiting to be read/dealt with, I know it's generally a lot faster to ring them over the phone as you will get a much speedier response.
