Help?! CPU running at 124 Celsius?!

I noticed that my mouse and screen was stuttering every 10-20 seconds, so I opened SpeedFan to find that my CPU is running at 124C?!
The most I have ever seen my CPU run at is 50C, so this seems quite... disastrous.
Any help on what could be going on? Thanks

Have you check at what speed the fans in the cooler are running? Do you get the same reading in Asus Suite?

Try something like Core temp to see if it confirms the temps,if so check the CPU cooler isn't loose.Failing that try reseating the cooler or if confident enough renewing the thermal paste

That 124°c must be wrong as your comp would most likely shut off by about 98°c. I used speedfan before myself and also gave incorrect readings. Like vanthus said above, try core temp instead. see what temps you get in that

Asus Suite is giving me 129 D: Going to leave off for an hour then check again, if it's still bad i'll check seating of cooler, and will replace thermal paste if it's seated fine :/

Gotta agree with that, it would have more than likely turned itself off well before it got to 124C

Finally got temperature down to about 50C after replacing thermal paste, I just hope this incident hasn't done any damage to the CPU.
