Help needed with PC gaming desktop

Hi all

I'm a complete novice when it comes to PCs so was wondering if anyone could help give any recommendations on this build for PC gaming?

I mostly play WoW but would like to play things such as CyberPunk when it comes out, PoE, Monster Hunter World and really would just like to comfortably play any new releases without the need to stream or anything.

I'd like to know if this build is over/under what I need and my budget for the PC is around that shown on the quote below. Any advice on monitors etc. very welcome too.

There are some tweaks to improve value and performance - but first, what monitor are you gaming on?

What resolution and refresh rate?

The graphics card is overkill for the monitor - not futureproof overkill, just a waste of cash, as by the time the extra performance is something you'd really benefit from, there'll be newer, faster, cheaper GPUs on the market anyway. A better fitting GPU would be the GTX 1660.

The AMD R5 3600, which is available under this configurator, is better for gaming.

I'd also suggest a case with better airflow. The Fractal Focus G saves you some money or if you prefer the plain black and tempered glass aesthetic, the Meshify C is excellent and not too much more money.

Thanks for taking the time to do this! I understand what you're saying and that makes a lot of sense.

This sounds like a great build. I don't know a great deal about the current state of new GPUs but how future-proof would you estimate this at before i need to think about an upgrade?

Thanks again!

As you say, hard to know, but perhaps a couple of years.

You shouldn't expect to play games on all ultra settings during this time, but you never should. 'ultra' settings in games tend to be unrealistically demanding on hardware with relatively little improvements in image quality. Whereas playing on high/very high mixed with some ultra settings makes games a lot more playable.

Spending enough for fluid framerates on all games at ultra usually seems you spend so much that you should be running a higher resolution. The RTX 2060 Super for instance is really more suited to 1440p gaming.

A 1660 Super will do very well at 1080p. For instance, Metro Exodus on highest settings:

That makes perfect sense. The build you've suggested then seems to sound perfect for what I'm looking for.

Thanks once more for taking the time to help!
