Hi

I'm looking at the below build as a gaming PC, I won't be doing any video editing etc. Budget is no more than what is showing below, just need guidance if I'm wasting money anywhere or I could save money and get similar performance etc.

Any help would be apprecaited.

For that kind of budget I'd strongly suggest an i7 CPU. I'd also suggest faster RAM. An i5 with slow RAM for a 2.5k build is very meagre. They do make a pretty substantial difference in some games and paired up with a high end GPU like a 1080 ti I would say they're essential at this price range.

You can fund that a number of ways. The WD Black really isn't worth the £70 premium over a regular 2TB HDD for gaming. The SSD you've selected is also pretty poor, to the point that I'd say it's not worth buying. A 2.5k build without an SSD is also a bit tragic but at least you can just add one in the future more cost effectively than replacing a CPU or RAM.

Also you could look at cheaper peripherals.

Another option is to stick with the GTX 1080 non-ti, since it's more than capable at 1440p, over £200 cheaper, and you're gonna replace it one day anyway.

Potentially drop the 3 day service to a 5 day one to free up £30.

You could also go for a pre-OCed build, since the pre_OCed aspect itself only adds ~£10 to the build.

This is with the OC, a better cooler, the i7, the faster RAM, and the cheaper HDD. If you need to shave further £ off you could review the peripherals, the GPU, and the fast track:

Edit: I hadn't seen Keynes' post above when I started replying, but it seems we're in agreement about things like the i7, RAM, and SSD. A 4k monitor is a very valid choice for a GTX 1080 ti.
