Help with non gaming streaming PC.

Hi.

I want to buy a PC that will be used for live streaming non-gaming content. The streams focus on browser content, the browser content is usually live data charts that are constantly updating. It's not very resource-intensive, I've found my old Lenovo Thinkpad with 16 gig ram handles things ok for its spec (occasional stutter and slow down). With that in mind, I'd like the build to have 16gig Ram too. 32 gig RAM

The reason for the build is to improve stream picture quality. I can't run higher quality settings in OBS with my Laptop. The streams are hosted on YouTube, and sometimes in zoom private sessions.

I use a face cam and also run OBS with multiple people on stream.
I will need inputs for headphones, speakers, webcams and external hard drives too.

I would also like a monitor included in the build. 27 inches. This monitor will be the stream capture screen.

I have an old monitor (Samsung LED 1920 X 1080p 60 Hz ). It will be for viewing OBS, Youtube and other non-essential stream things.

I have a budget of 1.8k GBP. Would I need a larger budget if I wanted to play games on it? Games wouldn't be streamed.

For a streaming PC for this budget that includes a monitor you'd be looking at 1080p. For 1080p, a 24 inch monitor would be a much better size as 1080p at 27 inches can start to produce a blurry image due to the pixel density. For your budget, you'd be able to get in a PC that's capable of gaming too.

This is what I'd go for. The Ryzen 7 will be a great CPU for all your streaming needs with the extra cores over the Ryzen 5. You say that 16GB is adequate so wil take your word for it and have put that in. This is the part I'm a little unsure of. For a 1080p 144hz gaming experience, the 1660 Super will be a perfectly adequate card. If you wanted 1440p, you'd be looking at a 3060TI and a much larger budget. For storage, there's a 500GB Gen 4 SSD for Windows and applications, then a 1TB SSD for your games and a 2TB HDD for general files (documents, photo's videos). The RM850W PSU will comfortably power this system and allow for upgrades down the road. The Ryzen 7 will benefit from an AIO so I've gone for the cooler Master 240 AIO, although you could step up to the Corsair H115i. If you have a wireless connection the AX200 wifi card will be all you need. If you use ethernet, this can be removed. The anti-virus has been removed as it's known to cause issues and the silver warranty is well worth the £5.

For monitors, the MSI G241 and AOC 24G2U are both great options for 1080p, then they have 144hz which will be fantastic for when you're gaming. Both can be found for around £200 online. With one of those and this PC it takes you to a smidge over your £1,800 budget.

Non-gaming streaming PC's aren't really my speciality, and are a bit of a side step from what I'm used to. But I thought I'd give a suggestion to get the ball rolling. Hopefully once I post this, some of the other members might see this with more knowledge than me then suggest if they'd make changes or if they'd suggest spreading the budget differently. But for now, I hope this info helps towards getting what you're looking for!

Yes. This is very, very helpful. I've struggled to find a streaming setup that isn't aimed at gaming. And from what I've seen, those can get very expensive.

A question. If I were to increase RAM to 32 GB, would I need to change any other parts? ( I can adjust budget)

If you'll up RAM to 32GB, better to pick faster, 3600MHz, RAM instead of 3200MHz so 32GB 3600MHz. AMD CPU's love fast RAM, especially if your 5800X will be used intensively. Other parts in regards to RAM is ok, but I would upgrade a cooler to Corsair H100x as 8 cores 5800X CPU can be hot at intensive times.

Citrus has beaten me to it! Also make sure you get 2 sticks of 16GB as there have been reports of problems with 4 sticks. Plus having 2 sticks means you can also upgrade to 64GB if it’s ever necessary. I’d also recommend upgrading the CPU Cooler. Think it’ll be well worth it although I’d go for a H100i as it’s the newer version and will come with quieter fans.

Thank you so much, guys! I've made the recommended adjustments. I've found an AOC 24G2U on amazon for £189 so it comes in at under £2k. A little over budget, but that's o.k. I'll give it a few days before placing the order just in case there are any other suggestions.

Regarding the ram speed, do we know the CAS latency (CL) of the 3600mhz ram? Because its possible the 3200mhz ram has better CL. For example a CL18 3600mhz vs CL16 3200mhz would equal similar performance? Or am I wrong? I'm asking also because I have 3600mhz on my build and I'm wondering what the CAS values are for that Corsair Vengeance ram.

Looks good! Since the release of the 30 series GPU’s, they’ve stopped producing the 16 and 20 series (meaning the 1660 Super) so the availability of these cards have dried up. Finding stock of them is very difficult and we don’t really know how long the cards PCS have will last. The sooner you can order the better.

@AgentCooper @SpyderTracks @Bigfoot @Ash_ Is there any changes you guys would recommend to this build?

SpyderTracks

We love you Ukraine
The only upgrade I'd suggest is the PSU to the 850RMx version which is in the bottom section of the drop down list. It's a more modern version and quite substantially better. It's £13 more then the one you currently have.

I was going to suggest reducing the cooler to the H100i but see it's been removed from the configurator.

It's a very capable build, may well be overspecced, but if your budget is ok with that it's not a pointless overspec, you'll benefit from it in the long run.

Thanks Spyder!

I believe the H100i has disappeared because a new product is coming soon to replace it 🤔 👀

O.k I'll order asap. Looking at future upgrades, you mentioned a 3060ti. Would that work with this build?

Yup, a 3060TI would be perfectly fine. The PSU is an 850W model, which means you'll have lots of room for future upgradability. The 3060TI is designed to be a 1440p 144hz card meaning if you were looking for an upgrade it would be a great next step. Although, I'm hoping that you'd be looking at the 40 series or 50 series of GPU's when it comes time to upgrade.
