Home Office 4 Monitor Setup

At my work I have a 4 screen setup and I am trying to replicate that set up a home. From the home PC, I will be using VMWARE Horizon Client to access my desktop at work. Horizon supports the 4 monitor setup as long as all 4 monitors are same resolution and are stacked in 2*2 formation. At work, I mostly run trading applications. Bloomberg, charting software, deal capture system, excel, ppt, outlook etc. I work with lots of data and I would classify this as fairly intensive but nowhere close to gaming specs.

I just ordered the below spec from this website. I should have asked this question before ordering but does this make sense?

From the point of view of the GPU, the specs say that it can run 4 monitors somehow (it apparently has 2 DP and 2 HDMI connections). As for the rest of your spec, my concern would be whether the CPU is good enough for the applications you intend to use but, as I have no specific knowledge of trading applications etc, I may be wrong.

I assume you are only going to use the system for the uses you outlined and nothing else such as gaming? If you could confirm that, as well as your maximum budget, we may be able to recommend something better...depending on the changes, you may be able to change them on your existing order.

Hi mate - thanks for replying.
Confirmed that I won’t be using this PC for any gaming nor do I see the possibility of such a thing happening in near future with a 2 month old daughter.

With regards to the graphics card, my only reasoning was that this card can support up to 5 screens. I did not want to spend anything more here. The only reason I am even looking at dedicated graphics cards is to support multiple monitors and not to enjoy all other benefits these cards offer to gamers.

With regards to the CPU, please note that I won’t be running any applications natively on this PC. These apps will run on my office desktop which I will access remotely via VMware Horizon client. So correct me if I am wrong but I only need to ensure that there is enough juice in the system to power Horizon?

The above build is coming in at £800 and I have ordered 4 BenQ monitors separately taking my overall cost to 1400. I can perhaps add another £100 to the above if it’s deemed necessary.

Appreciate your advice.

Thanks, R.

yeah this looks better. just one more question before I re-order. why is Ryzen 5 3600 a better process over 7 2700x? Are you talking from a gaming perspective or for office productivity work? I thought it was almost near the top of their line? And if I stay with Ryzen 7 2700x, will I be OK for next 3/4 years for office work?

Thanks, R.

The 2700x is older generation, the 3600x equals it but is a newer architecture so more futureproof, also about the same money.

Got it. Re-ordering now.

A question on the 4 monitor setup.
I see that the graphics card has 3 Display ports and 1 HDMI port.
The monitors I have ordered have 1 DP & 1 HDMI each (but they come with only HDMI cable)

Can you please help answer these questions below?

1. Does this mean that I can connect one of the monitors to the HDMI output with the cable provided with the monitor?
2. For the other 3 monitors, I need either a DP to DP cable or a DP to HDMI cable. IS that correct?
3. Which is better a DP to DP cable or a DP to HDMI cable?

Thanks guys!
R.

Yes, correct. Best to get DP to DP cables.
