alright i wanna overclock my cpu but what would be the recommended frequency with this build. Ive monitored the temperatures in the idle state and when im encoding or giving it some heavy work..the result is around 50-55degrees which is kind of reasonable

3.40GHz is the recommended clock speed for this CPU :p

Overclocking is about squeezing more out of the device than it was designed for and no end result is guaranteed, some CPU's clock well, others dont. Its down to the individual chips and the materials they are made of.

For amd the max temp you really want it to run at is around 60c (amirite paulh) so you should be able to get a mild overclock with your current cooler.

Nope, dont touch that dial! The super quiet heatpipe cooler is NOT ideal for using on an overclocked system, thats what the titan fenrir comes in to play with some nice overclocked mx-3 TIM - Please remember, we do machines with overclocking on our site which singles out components not really suitable for use with overclocking, also remember if you overclock you CPU, it goes bang, you are responsible and warranty is void.

On my old AMD 965 chip, I had it running at 4.0GHz daily, under load it would get to around 49oc (using the xigmatec Dark knight Cooler -i.e one of the best. - Your machine will shut down at 62oc but i wouldnt risk it without a decent cooler, although case helps, you need to have the proper "tools" for the job.

On a side note why do you need to overclock it? HD video encoding? youll probably gain 1 or 2 seconds going to 3.8 - raising you CPU/NB link and voltage will help loads more - but again this will up your temps, try it at your own risk, but set the CPu/NB freq to 2600 and voltage to 1.25/1.3 - dont really go over the 1.3v marker on that - this makes the system a lot more snappy :)
