How to test temps of CPU & GPU? (any simple stress test software?)

Hi all,

I've read bits and bobs of people having overheating issues with Octane IV & the 8700k & 1080GTX combo and since I've recently picked up this laptop, I'm looking for a simple way of testing the temps of both the CPU & GPU without having to play hours of games etc.

I got the laptop as a gaming/workstation laptop so eventually I will be putting it through it's paces, but currently I'm busy with other things & figured i'd rather test for overheating issues now rather than potentially find out it has issues later down the road when I'm working on a critical deadline or something.

You could use something like Realtemp, HWinfo, or MSI afterburner (which with the included RTSS has an on-screen display overlaying games etc) to check temps.

To text GPU temps, something like 3dmark Firestike or Unigine Valley

For CPU temps, Cinebench or Prime95. Note that for Prime95 you may want to use version 26.6 or disable AVX instructions if using a more modern version.

Out of interest, what will you be using the laptop for? Will it be under heavy load when you are working to deadlines for your projects?

Hi Oussebon, thanks for the reply!

I work with video in a bunch of forms (live action, 2d motion graphics, 3d animations, vr etc) so both the GPU & CPU will probably be handling a good amount of load in the future.
