Hyperthreading

Hey

I am currently looking to buy a New PC as you will notice in specs and thanks to bg42 I have what I want. How ever after doing a bit more research I was wondering would it be better to get say i5-2500 over the i7-2600 as hyperthreading is not used in games yet and can slow performace (I might be wrong as a lot of data was from 2006-8)

I do want bang for buck and as this is mostly a gaming pc will the i7 hyperthreading affect me neagtively with games that don't use it.

What I mean by that is will it be a big impact on me if a game does not use hyperthreading or so little i won't notice it. Now I know games this year are startin to use the quad i.e dragon age 2 which I assume since it recommeds quad it will use hyperthreading

hyperthreading shouldn't really affect your gaming. So either i5-2500 or i7-2600 would be fine, you would save money going for the i5 and maybe spending it on something else. hypethreading is not something that is on quad cores, only the I7 cpus from intel have it but not all of them.
When you pick your spec post it so you we can double check that everything is ok :D

You should be able to tell your computer whether or not to use hyperthreading. At one of the places I worked I was able to turn it on or off in the bios on start up.

There is no harm in ordering the i7-2600 and doing so will not have a negative effect in gaming performance. As bg92 mentions above, you could spend the money you save by downgrading to the 2500 on other components which may improve performance or allow for future upgrades.

Ok i decied to downgrade to a 15-2500 and got a 24inch monitor along with a bigger PSU as i will SLI with another card down the line. Since this is purely a gaming machine i see no point in having hyperthreading and spending an extra 70 quid on it for an extra .10Ghz and an extra 2mb cache

I have a 100gb partition for Os and then another two 100gb and 400gb, but go going with 80-100 gb for Os would be ok.

There's been some debate about that before,i'm sure some of the experts said it wasn't really needed nowadays.

Hyperthreading can and does have negative effects in some games but it's usually only 3~FPS lower than with it off so it's not a big difference.

It will not make much difference if any, but with partitions I just think its more tidy.
Oh yes,i totally agree with you.I intend doing it myself.especially as i want to try out other operating systems.
