I love Intel

OK, so the title of this thread is a bit of a lie but as I have been dissing Intel so much on here lately thought it only decent to highlight one of the great positives of their CPUs.

I got my last desktop a year or so before AMD re-entered the land of the living so obviously went with Intel.

My office is an old spare bedroom and the coldest place in the house, no radiators when this place was built. So having an overclocked Arsonist's Friend (i9) is saving me a fortune as I no longer need an electric heater in the room.

Must be said I've never had problems with my Intel machines and they were always king for pure clock speed (the game I play is very dependent on pure clock speed rather than the GPU or multi-cores)

Intel were excellent for a long time and are still decent. Initially AMD surprised everyone but Intel have had plenty of time to react now and do not seem to have done so.

You are not going to move on to a new architechture overnight but they could at least be putting a few press releases out about plans for a new one.

I feel them replacing their CEO at the start of the year was a reaction to the realisation how far behind they had fallen. Apple dropping them was probably the final straw

Give it a couple more generations and they can bounce back but it won't be easy

I hope they do get back. My first thought when the Ryzen appeared was a good bit of competition would impact on prices, in the right direction for us.

Apple overtaking them in performance with Apple silicon also on their first attempt must has severely rattled intel!

At the end of the day, the specs you like, are the best specs for you. Whether it’s AMD or Intel, Geforce or Radeon. Yes performance and reliability is obviously a massive factor. My previous PC was Intel, never had a single CPU issue. My current PC is AMD, never had a single issue.

If you’re happy with your PC, you’re happy with your PC.
On the other hand, if you're speccing a high performance PC then the manufacturer's name on the components should not be a factor. All that should matter is that the spec is balanced, within your budget, offers the performance you need, and is upgradable in the near term.

I feel that if all you want, is a gaming desktop... intel really aren’t too bad. People i play with though, have real struggles when people join and leave party/discord chats.

In laptops though... AMD really have intel in a world of hurt.

I would say if anyone really must have an intel CPU (why anyone would be blindly loyal to any company I will never understand but hey) there is a case for them waiting until Rocket lake hits. If rumours are correct they might provide slightly better x-high frame rate gaming performance than the current AMD 5000 series, so there could be a niche market for them, However we won't know this for sure until those CPU's are released and given its still using 14nm architecture they will still be plagued with issues which for the vast majority of users just won't be worth the effort.

I'm sure everyone on here wants a strong Intel, just like everyone wants a strong AMD. Choice and competition is what's drives this industry and the vast majority of us are enthusiasts and just want the best performance we can get for the budget we have and who is making the parts is really irrelevant.

I think that is the driver behind most retail industry

I wouldn't mind Intel biting the dust entirely, given their decade of purposely controlling the market and doing iterative upgrades to maximise profits while misleading investors and flat out lying to customers.

They're an awful company and IMHO don't deserve to step back into the limelight without issuing many public apologies for their past transgressions.

The competition is now with Apple Silicon, and I'm sure Microsoft's soon to be ARM CPU development will offer even more competition.
