I have terrible experience with laptop I had bought in UK. They either had cooling/keyboard issues. I am looking for a laptop about 700 Pounds price range and Optimus VII looks too good to be true. So I am asking people who already bought this, what are temperatures of laptop on full load while playing games? Do you feel heat over the keyboard or have any other issues with keyboard?

If you go onto the product page: http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/notebooks/optimusVII-15/ and click the reviews tab (one of the 4 under the image gallery at the top) you can see reviews from users who have bought the PC and see what they think.

The Optimus VII chassis is a Clevo N170RD so you can also look that up online and see what kinds of experiences people have had with it.

You will find reviews of custom laptops from other companies that also use that chassis (Clevo chassis are widely used by many custom laptop companies). The parts of the PC that generate the most heat - the CPU and the GPU - will be pretty standard as will the ventilation etc (obviously right, it's the same chassis..) so you could expect similar performance and thermals - subject to things like the thermal compounds used (you can select high quaility thermal compound in the PCS custom build menu), ambient temps, etc etc - from a Clevo N170RD regardless of who built it. It's not an absoluete rule but if you find 90% of people saying their hands get really hot while using it, that might influence your decision. While if you find 90% of people saying it's perfectly adequate for comfort, that's also information you can take on board. :)

Also remember than when you google anything computer related, you are likely to come across a disproportionate number of results indicating problems, because when people have a problem they post about it to get answers. e.g. if you googled "GTX 970 performance" you'd find a lot of posts where people had performance issues with that card, even though (unless you get a faulty one, which is no more likely than with any other card) it's a great GPU.

If I had a bad experience with a product of one type I'd probably do the kind of research above in a 'once bitten twice shy' approach as well, so I hope the above helps.

I've also got some questions about this model...

Does the keyboard backlight turn on by default each time I turn on the laptop or will it remember previous settings?

Is there much bloatware on this model?

Does the manual explain how to swap HDD for an SSD?

Is the chassis a fingerprint magnet?

Thanks.

I can't help on that one, I'm sure others can.

None at all.

If you buy Windows 10 with it then you'll get Windows 10 plus all the necessary drivers. If you select the trial versions of Office and AntiVirus software they will also be installed, but that's all. If you elect to have no Office and AntiVirus software you will just get Windows 10 and the necessary drivers.

You only get a user's guide which doesn't explain how to do that. However, PCS have an open case policy that won't void your warranty (as long as you don't break anything) and swapping out an HDD for an SSD is very simple. PCS can probably supply you with the service manual (which does explain how to do that) if you ask them.

Is the chassis a fingerprint magnet?

Not that I'm aware of. My Optimus IV isn't at least.

You're very welcome. :)
