i7 2600 or amd proccessor?

Basically which proccessor would you guys choose for a gaming pc? an amd 6core or a quad core i7 2600. The main thing i want to be able to do with my PC is to game, and will have a gtx 580. Budget is £1350 without windows (already own a copy).

you will be much better off with the i7 and it will last you much longer

My gut instict was the i7, definately ordering this week, so ironing out any doubts now before i order

Fr gaming, go for the i7, if you were doing stuff that uses multi cores then the 6 core amd would be good, but obviously with hyperthreading the quad core i7 is capable of executing 8 threads concurrently, effectivley making it an 8 core.

i would say the i7 would be better for gaming as i've heard no other processors get better fps than the 2nd gen intel processors... some how :L
