Iconico RTX 3070 Awful Performance

Hi guys. I just got my new laptop 17” Iconico Intel® Core™ i7 Eight Core Processor 10875H, RTX 3070 64 GB Ram. And I’m having so much trouble with this thing. I specifically ordered this laptop with HLA in mind. I’ve made sure windows is updated, as with my Nvidia drivers. I have made sure my laptop is prioritising my 3070 and not the Integrated graphics. But still no result. Any ideas? I’m quite lost as what to do, and honestly I’m pretty disappointed so far.

What do you mean by "no result"?

Can you post your full specs from the order page?

What headset are you using? I take it by HLA you mean VR Half Life Alyx?

I am using Oculus Rift 2 via wired USB - USB c connection to my laptop.

In terms of the performance - when I launch half life Alyx the game first tells me that my system doesn’t meet the minimum requirements for the game (lol??)
When I do play the game, I’m getting terrible performance. Low FPS, audio lag. It all.

I wont lie I have never used VR so I don't know how it works but assuming HLA works like a normal game have you checked it is using the Nvidia GPU. Have you tried switching the laptop GPU to discrete mode in the BIOS to force the 3070?

First of all I would start by running a test like 3dMark or whatever and compare results with similar setups.

Checking the temperature for throttling as well.
Then if all this clears, you can start to test games to see what works properly or not.

Edit:Just saw you had them repast it with arctic paste. I didn't as there has already been nightmares stories about this on the forums. Maybe wrong repaste could explaib thermal throttle and thus poor performance.

I just want to clarify your comment here. PCS have to paste your CPU no matter what. Whether it be MX-4 or bog standard paste. You would have been better off going for MX-4 as the chances of it being applied correctly are exactly the same as the bog standard paste getting applied correctly.

I'm no expert on these things whatsoever but I'm also buying an Ionico with VR in mind, and I know that as of yet, 30 series Gpus aren't supported by Oculus Link. Could it just be that the drivers haven't been developed yet?

I see. Very interesting. I’m the same boat as you, as I specifically bought this laptop with VR & Half life Alyx in mind.

@angelo994 if you could answer the above, we need to be sure windows is configured before proceeding further.
Yes, I did a clean install of windows. I’m not really sure what other drivers I would need to install sorry. I’ve made sure to check windows is updated.

So if you go into device manager and look for any unknown devices listed.

Take a screenshot of any so we can see what we're dealing with.

You have to ask to PCS, they'll send you a direct link for all the drivers needed. Maybe the USB-C with Display Port delivery isn't well supported without some of those. Don't know why they aren't filling each Account's download page yet, but to any other receiving Ionico so far, they had to live chat to had the drivers.
Plus I second the suggestion for you to disable the iGPU via the MUX. If you do via BIOS or by installing the new Control Center coming with the PCS drivers it's up to you.

So I had a look at my Device Manager and there doesn't seem to be any unknown devices listed. This makes me think that the problem is indeed with Oculus. I've seen others say that there might not be support yet for the RTX 3000 series yet with regards to Oculus. However the thing I am really unsure about is the performance specific with Half Life Ayx. In my Nvidia GeForce when I optimise the game Nvidia GeForce tells me that the game should operate on High Settings

This makes me think there is a software issue going on.

I just wanna say thanks too guys. I'm not the most technically savvy so I really do appreciate the help.

I'm sorry, honestly I'm not too sure about much of what you said, and I'd be scared to really severerly mess something up on my computer.

Your windows isn’t configured yet.

You’ll need your drivers as @Macco26 says, without those, windows isn’t set up and the system isn’t ready for use.

You’ll need to contact PCS and get your drivers uploaded to your account, then we can get windows configured.

There’s no guarantee the VR will work if it’s not compatible yet (never buy oculus) but at least your laptop will be ready for use.

Okay I'll give PC Specialist a call just now and see if I can get the drivers sent to me. I did call up a few days ago with regards to the Control Centre which they sent me via email.

With regards to Oculus, I fully agree. I absolutely hate Facebook. Only reason I'm using it is because we got it sent free from my girlfriends work!
