Need help with my custom build from pc specialists please.

Ok, so I am not used to customising pc's as I would normally buy them stock from a retailer which I now realise is a big no no. Do the specs shown on the link below seem ok? I am worried about the cooling as I would like to keep my setup as cool as possible. are there any recommendations? particularly with my CPU cooling? I have chosen the most expensive water cooler with fans or would just the fans be better or what? will everything I put on the customization page be ok for my setup or will I need to buy additional parts?

Need opinions for my custom build pc

I'm mostly looking at CPU's, RAM and graphics card. I was watching this video of a game running 4K textures and they had an i7 3770k clocked to 4.6 ghz, I'm looking in the custom overclocks section, would the i5 7600k be better than the i7 3770k or should I go for the i7 7700k? (clocked to 4.8ghz for both the 7600 and the 7700). Also, another question, should I have 32gb ddr4 3200mhz and 4gb 1050 TI OR should I get 16gb ddr4 3200mhz and a 6gb gtx 1060?

I don't really have a budget but would like to go no higher than £1400, I want as much CPU RAM and Video as much as possible that's needed so I'm trying to get the right amount of each as I don't want too much RAM and not enough video etc. my specs I currently chose are shown as below:

if you want to go for the reconfigure page and link me that id be more than happy too, I'm mostly getting a PC for Prepar3D a flight simulator but with high 4K textures. I seen a guy run insane textures I'm after with the i7 3770k I think @ 4.6ghz and was wondering if the i5 7600k @ 4.8ghz is as good as the 3770k or better or worse? I have never made a custom PC as I am one of the ones to fall in the trap of buying retail PC's :/ now I realised how much money I was wasting lol.

The core PC is much more powerful than the selected GPU needs for most games, I'm assuming that you will be looking to upgrade the GPU in the future to something a bit more high end without requiring to upgrade anything else.
I've lowered the size of the primary drive in order to keep costs down but I've added a storage drive to take care of any requirements there.
The cooler that I have selected is the best off the shelf choice that PCS offer. You could save some money on the Noctua air cooler which also does a reasonable job. I just really like the H100 and H110 offerings from Corsair.
The case I have selected is night and day from your original choice. It's a very high end case and much more representative of such a system.
The motherboard is the one I always select. It has a brilliant feature set including dual M2 ports and onboard Wifi. It's excellent for overclocking and isn't too extremely priced.


The above system with the likes of a 1080ti would happily run demanding titles in 4k. The processing power for simulators is up there with the best and it will see you through for many a year with minimal upgrades (GPU may be the exception).

If you decide another £38 wouldn't be too OTT then I would recommend the 850w PSU option. It's just a better all round PSU and allows for zero fan running when not in demand (silent).

Quibbles and tweaks aside, the kinds of builds posted above (OCed i7, fast RAM, GTX 1060 6gb) look great for what you want the PC for.

When are you planning to make the purchase, though?

If you're saving up I'd strongly recommend checking in again on the forums once you're at your ~£1400 level in (presumably) a few months time.

There may be newer tech, or prices may have changed, such that a slightly different config would offer you better performance per £, or that a similar config with a couple of tweaks would be a lot cheaper. So do feel free to post up nearer the time as well

I really didn't like it. The PSU shroud aside, it really didn't feel good quality to me at all. The fan space at the front looked great but inside it covered the shroud. I know that reviews are brilliant for it but IMO that's down to the price, it's an AMAZING case for the money. I definitely wouldn't be putting high end "everything" in it though. I felt that if pushed it would struggle. I have built a system using one too, it wasn't an i7 with high end cooling, a top end GPU with multiple storage options though.

Regarding the R5, I don't see it as a one trick "silent" pony. It's a fantastic case overall with many assets. Taking off a couple of panels to add a H100i doesn't detract at all from how good a case it is, even if it does make it a little less "silent". Given that the panels don't need to be removed and it's PCS that decided to do it that way kind of makes it a strange argument but I get that most end users won't be looking to manually place the fan/radiator assy themselves.

The reason I keep choosing the R5 for single GPU installations is because of how good a case overall it is, not due to how silent it is. When getting into full on installations I would always choose the Carbide Air series (I'm now looking at a 740 myself).

Oh goodness, I didn't mean to start this thing again. I knew I should have kept my mouth shut.

Yes, the R5 is a great case with many merits beyond its sound dampening. No it's not a "one trick pony". (eyeroll..) Yes it's certainly better than the Game Max Falcon (unless you're desperate for RGB lighting).

My point is that one of the things you're paying for with the R5 is sound dampening. With the enthusiast self-builds that we all love to do we can mount the rad where we want. This conversation isn't about that, however, it's about a build where PCS take the build decisions and for reasons they feel have the most merit they mount the cooler on the roof. Many customers may not feel comfortable remounting a water cooler to change the position, if PCS do even give them the moduvent covers (they did with Jerpers, but not me). It's not a death blow, but it is a sad waste of one of this case's many great features (arguably one of its greatest - that it is so good at managing acoustics while not being an oven).

Obviously the covers can be removed, and Fractal clearly intend the case to be used in this way from time to time. But for this kind of use, where someone basically wants a gaming PC with particularly good CPU performance for simulators, it's not really necessary. A 2nd front intake fan would make more sense...

The Game Max Falcon will be fine for an i7 CPU with an H100i V2 cooler and a GTX 1060. Or even a GTX 1080.

I didn't say the Fractal wouldn't be better, I just said the Game Max Falcon would be fine.

It's a shame you didn't like building in it. But it will do the job for performance and the OP won't have to be building in it. That's why he's buying a PC someone else built for him/her.

If the OP would rather save £50 to put towards a larger SSD for example, the Game Max Falcon would be a perfectly valid choice.
