i see amazon are selling OS X Mountain Lion on a usb stick,link below, if i booted from this usb stick into a normal laptop would this work, yes/no?

That would make the laptop a 'hackintosh'. It's not something I'm particularly familiar with, other than you shouldn't take it for granted that it will work as not all hardware will be compatible. You probably want to research the hardware before you try it:

Oussebon is correct about it being a Hackintosh. There is a lot of fiddling involved, it will not work on a standard system that had Windows or Linux on it. I am a Linux user, not brilliant by a long way but fairly competent and I would not touch a Hackintosh with a barge pole. I enjoy trying new distros and have a spare machine just for putting new stuff on to look at but having looked into the Hackintosh and talked with someone who had got one working, but not easily, I decided it was not worth the effort. That was a year back, so things may have got easier, although I doubt it.
If you do try, please post your experiences with it, there are a lot of curious people here.
